Yes and after watching 5 minutes I left. The team did not appear in synch -yet. That may take more time. I did not see Binelli or Okongo play. The pro offense seems as aimless as Murphy's no offense. All you are going to get out of an internal scrimmage is one player appears better than other. Decent group of folks showed up to watch. The real issue is guys that haven't played together for a long time, inexperience at the center with Njie and Jihad and Randle and learning Coach Heath's system.

George Gervin was there.
I get what they were trying to do but if they did it on a non-homecoming weekend, more people m if he have went. It was hard to justify leaving connecting with old peers to watch the scrimmage on such a beautiful day.[/align]

Meaningless, considering we have, essentially, an entirely new team.
True but with a new team i would not predict a good season, in all regard to miggy..

More than likely not, but we have absolutely no clue how they’ll look together, and neither does KenPom. So whatever rating we have is a complete guess.
Murphy won the MAC West in his first season with Ramsey’s cast offs. You just never know in basketball. It shouldn’t take too long to rebuild, especially in this transfer era, if you can identify talent and coach it properly. I think Heath is off to a good start with the former. We’ll see how it goes with the latter.

Sam, you raise a very valid point regarding Murphy’s early success in winning the MAC West his first year (although if taken overall standings, that team was probably just into the upper half of the MAC). On paper Heath has a much more talented team than Murphy when you take into account the new adds. I have listed both in above posts for comparison.

Utterly insane that this team won their division. Darrell Lampley was the only player who averaged more than 10 PPG.

Interesting that EMU had a losing (5-11) conference record in the 2010-2011 season, and after losing EMU’s best player Brandon Bowdry, the following season had a winning (9-7) conference record in Murphy’s first season as HC. EMU did so even though it averaged three less points per game ( 56 ppg). EMU won more games because opponents averaged 10 less points (55 ppg) in conference play from the season before.
Agree, although I remain optimistic as I believe the talent level is there, it’s anyone’s guess as whether the players will work as a cohesive unit, and whether Binelli and Okongo are fully healthy.
What is known is that MAC’s best 4 or 5 teams are very good.

Lampley was literally the ONLY scoring option.
Conversely, Sims (hustle) and Green (athletic) were more than qualified defenders. Moreso, Harris and Riley were both incredible shot blockers. When you look at it that way, did Murphy have what he needed for defense?

RE: Did EMU MBB have an intra-squad scrimmage today?
Murphy had the 2-3 in other words a system that other teams weren't ready for. A gimmick if you will kinda like Princeton had. The 2-3 allowed Murphy to win with essentially Ramsey's talent while Murphy's first set of transfers sat out.
I don't think Heath has a new system that will baffle his opponents looks pretty generic to me. In terms of talent Heath has less returning talent than Murphy had his first year but better fresh talent.

Heath’s G-league pro-offense that won the Championship was very effective. Whether EMU players can master it remains to be seen. Coaches let players know about their mistakes.
He has Farrakhan and Scott that will be difficult to stop from scoring at the rim. EMU’s goal should be to shoot 50 percent plus on two’s, and be one of the top MAC teams in taking foul shots. Believe EMU will do just fine hitting three’s.
EMU on defense needs to average 8-plus steals per game, and EMU must keep conference opponents to shooting less than 44 percent on two’s.

Murphy won the division that year with freaking 9-7 record! Yep ONE whole win better than a .500 record. The MAC West coaching club have division champ banners hanging in their rafters "honoring" their mediocre performance due to the MAC's antiquated two division system. Murph's team followed this 9-7 "champion" performance with a less than glorious one and out in the MAC tourney, it was hardly a good team.
