Memphis-UT in Nashville
We sold out our allotment? Were they only available to season ticket holders?

"Memphis basketball has sold out of its ticket allotment for the UT game in Nashville, UofM depty AD Jeff Crane told @Greg_Gaston and @Eli560 on @Sports56WHBQ.

Crane said there are still tickets available for purchase via Bridgestone Arena. Capacity for hoops games there is 19K+."

My son lives in Brentwood, went to UTK, and works for Bridgestone in Nashville. Might give him a call and see if he can score some tix in the Corporate box....

By the looks of the Bridgestone Arena Ticketmaster site, the schools' allotments were large. They're only selling upper level baseline. Kind of surprised our season ticket holders alone bought enough to sellout our allotment.

I have an invitation to a corp box there but it will be full of UTk fans. Not sure good seats will be worth that.

The arena kept about 2500 tickets - those at the top as you see available.
Memphis sold out its entire allotment all from season ticket holders
UT sold out their entire allotment all from season ticket holders

This will be like a bowl basketball game - one half orange the better half blue. Will be amazing and electric.

I recommend every Tiger fan that does not have tickets to the game to buy tickets from Utk fans in the vol section— let’s have as much blue in the Orange section as possible!

I sat in a box in Knoxville when we played them when Josh’s team won in Knoxville- it was great watching the disappointment on the butt-chuggers faces

What was the reason Barnes gave for not continuing the series?

According to TicketMaster, our bench is in front of 114/115, but not sure the exact sections our ticket allotment is in.

Did not know that Barnes was the reason this was the last game for a while, he was very eager to play his good friend and Hall of fame Coach Tubby Smith and he seems less eager to play Penny Hardaway for some reason

the decision not to renew the series came after the first game in the series between Rick and Penny. After the war of words that erupted after that game, Barnes elected not to renew.
I could also imagine he did not enjoy losing on his home floor with Memphis being down James Wiseman and either its 2nd or 3rd leading scorer due to injury in that game.

That’s an easy one. Barns knew Tubby’s team wasn’t that good and he was delighted to take the win fir recruiting purposes. But, Penny is no Tubby, so there’s that. Barnes doesn’t want to loose out in the recruiting and boasting game.

Spot on. Barnes is also friends with Tubby and has a particular disdain for penny because he thinks penny undermined Tubby to take his job.

RE: Memphis-UT in Nashville
I know some of y'all are not as old a fan as some of us. Tennessee and Mississippi only agree to play us when there is a reasonable chance we will be down and they will be good. Even so, the series with both are fairly close in basketball. 12-15 against UTK and 23-8 against Mississippi. Football's a little different, 1-22 against UTK and 12-47-2 against Mississippi, not that these records would come close to flipping, but typically during our good years, UTK and Mississippi are strangely absent from our schedule and they seem to regularly appear in our down seasons of which we've had plenty.

Anyway, the point is both records are skewed in the SEC team's favor due, for the most part, to they get to pick the years we play.

UTK saw Tubby's teams and agreed to play. That has changed. We won't be on their schedule again for a while. They are chickens, just look at Louisville/Kentucky to see some teams aren't afraid to schedule games fans want to see.

Penny did right by his players by advising them to play for a better coach. Tubby undermined himself.
