Why would killing a conference be a goal?

Arkansas State and Louisiana-Lafayette have been in Division 1-A much longer than those two--UL-Lafayette always having been D1. They suffered then from the same thing Southern Miss does in CUSA now--being angry at those schools who basically swept into their division and conference and passed them by. They don't have any lost love for FAU, FIU, and North Texas either. It has been their sick fantasy to see those five schools want to better themselves in Conference USA. They feel the same way about Louisiana Tech too for rejecting the Slum Belch to stay in the WAC around 2005-ish.

I see the revisionist history courses in Ruston are still going strong.

The opposition to Tech came before 2005. It came in the 1990's when the Big West Folded, the WAC Went to 16 and the SBC Formed. And the history of it formed long before even the 90's

But if we're going to be honest A40, if Tech wanted in the Sun Belt right now, they would have the votes. The only way they wouldn't is if South Alabama and Troy jumped up to say No...which I guess is possible.

I don't live in Ruston, and I have never been to Ruston, and I really don't care how far back the hate goes. Victimhood mentality has always followed the Slum Belch. When La Tech joined the WAC instead of being a charter member of Belch football. When La Tech refused to leave the WAC after SMU, Rice, Tulsa, and UTEP left. When Utah State left the Belch. And then when North Texas, Florida International, Florida Atlantic, Middle Tennessee, and Western Kentucky left the Slum Belch. Always b****ing and crying by the Slum Belch members left back.

Liar. We don’t know what your story is but it’s clearly not the one you are trying to peddle. For some reason or another you ‘get hard’ for all things ruston and/or coosa, and your hate for ULM, UL and the SBC is sick.
All of that = 100% ruston.

Has all but admitted creating a new alias to troll by citing things purported to happen on the board years before joining. It’s an AUP violation not that anyone cares.

Wanting to investigate the attitudes of Belch fans from the last round of realignment is not a violation of the AUP. It's verifying that Belch victimhood mentality is consistent when they lose teams to better conferences.

And I noticed that you dodged how Georgia State was added to the Suck Belt. I asked for you to set the record straight, and you dodged it by making a lame excuse about something regarding me that isn't true.

You know the truth of it since “searched the archives” because you would have learned it from one of my posts.

You are a board regular who has created a new identity to troll.

Your childishness in name calling pretty much nails down who you are. Rest of the folks here can play along. I won’t.

If I'm supposed to be a board regular, then who am I? And searching board archives doesn't mean I read everything. I searched the topics with inflammatory titles.

You're just mad at me because I don't like your school's conference and the victimhood mentality that it perpetuates. You're showing it right now by making accusations.

It's obviously not a goal of University Presidents ... it's just a goal of people who follow conference realignment hoping for there to be the most possible drama.

With the SEC and Big 12 expansion, it might be good to have a G4 instead of a G5. There are 56 G5 schools now and 5 indies. 14 teams X4 =56.

But if the MAC is not intent on killing CUSA, why would it take WKU and MTSU just because "they are pushing hard to join"?

This scenario is more a demonstration of how implausible it is than how plausible it is ... assuming the AAC wants four, not two, assuming the "exploration" of the MWC ends with them both willing and able to expand by two in the eastern half of Texas, and assuming the SBC can raid CUSA, still comes up short of killing off CUSA, and the MAC has to want to go into a pair of footloose adds that are likely to leave them with 13 schools and looking for a 14th yet again.

Rather, in that scenario, CUSA invites NMSU, invite up JMU if they'll come, otherwise Missouri State, if they want to play an eight game conference schedule invite UMass FB-only if they want to play an eight game schedule (under the new CCG rules they can even play a CCG), and except for sorting out their subsidy sports sponsorship requirements, they are set. If they add JMU and NMSU, their women's sports would be set, so they'd have two years to sort the men's sports out ... UTEP and FIU might have to start a Men's Tennis program.

The MAC can't even afford to add new teams. The extra money wouldn't cover the further division of revenues. An addition might make things interesting and spice things up - but it isn't worth the lowering of revenues per school.

RE: Killing CUSA - Possible and Likely??
I would think there are four schools MAC would consider seriously.

WKU. Geography works, been one of the schools toting the note for CUSA in football, serious about hoops.
ODU. Not perfect geography but it works and their AD seemed to hint at interest in an interview. Similar school to the backbone of MAC. Some speculation in intercollegiate circles that MAC membership would be budget friendly long-term.
JMU. School recruits regular students from MAC country. Similar type school and MAC transition would likely be more budget friendly.
MTSU. If you can travel to WKU, you can travel to MTSU. Nice handy airport access. Program is in a stagnant phase but historically serious competitor.

MAC likely holds many of the same thoughts about the future that B1G holds. B1G took big swings at going south, supposedly talking at length with Virginia, North Carolina, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Texas, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma at various times and not generating enough interest.

Moving into the south would help brand awareness in areas that are growing and increased awareness can help bolster MACtion viewing.

Does that mean any would get the needed 9 votes? That’s beyond my knowledge. I’ve never developed any MAC contacts. No idea what their dynamic is like. Would any of the four WANT to go? Well again who knows the mind of presidents and ADs, other than the open to interpretation comment from Wood Selig at ODU about the MAC no clue beyond fan comments which seem negative but probably would be different if CUSA gets battered.

AAC I think pretty much what I’ve thought all along.
They would likely look at UAB, Buffalo, Rice, UTSA, FIU, FAU, Marshall, ODU and depending on what drives and motivates their thinking, could look at a host of other schools from Sun Belt, MAC, and CUSA that aren’t getting much mention. In the end it’s a CEO decision.

We can’t really draw strong conclusions about what AAC values because last go round they had a good pool of well regarded academic institutions, successful football, and large markets. There is an assumption that markets drove their thinking but really outside of then struggling Tulane and smaller market ECU, everyone pretty much ticked the boxes and remember everyone added before Tulsa was voted on by the now departed Big East schools (explaining why ECU was initially football only).

Draw conclusions about what they want at your own risk because that big block of schools who picked most of today’s AAC are now in the Big East.

My guess remains what it has been. They either take 2 of UAB, Buffalo, Rice, UTSA, FIU, FAU or they take four and then others like Marshall come into play. Six seems unlikely and would certainly look panicky.

Sun Belt I still think is two with USM/Marshall the preference and if Marshall isn’t in play then you start looking at WKU, ODU, JMU.

I believe 2026 football is the last year of your deal unless I missed another extension.

Totally plausible ESPN going into extension talks, would like to see moves that bolster the brand and bring some properties over from the CBSSN fold.

A MTSU/WKU add increases awareness in Nashville, an ODU add increases awareness in the Norfolk region.

Possible ESPN could make it worth your time.

WKU and MTSU fans won't like that comment. They've had talks with the MAC in the past, so there is a basis that they could have chats again, but I would think CUSA would have to be in a position of total dissolution with no other options of forming a new southeast-based conference for those schools to be willing to go that far. I don't think they would want to be the sole reason CUSA dissolved.

If it happens I would think it would be similar to the MWCs decision to expand their territory even if it means going to 14

The mindset would be, this is the best time to get in into a southern territory and if we don't do it now we risk permanently locking ourselves out of desired expansion candidates.

If CUSA is down to 6, WKU and MTSU are more likely to play ball especially of Judy doesn't have a solid rebuilding plan

RE: Killing CUSA - Possible and Likely??
If the Sunbelt goes to 14 as is being reported with S Miss, JMU, ODU and Marshall, WKU and MTSU will put that full court press on the MAC to be their #13 and #14

If the MAC does go to 14, the CUSA shell could then become that mythical FBS United Athletic Conference for ASUN Ted

LA Tech and FIU work in the ASun footprint.

UTEP could join the WAC and get a football only arrangement with this new conferenc since the ASUN and WAC have a good working relationship. NMSU and other FBS interested WAC schools could also have a home for FBS football. Liberty is also I the ASun and I bet would listen to any plan.

If the Sunbelt and MAC go to 14, ASun Ted is going to have an opportunity to deliver of his alleged FBS promises.

Also, ASun Ted and ESPN have a great working relationship
