Texas has a vast ocean too and should welcome shipping companies to go there too. Between those two states (which one day may become countrys) the US can get back to normal and of course, The SOB will try to get the credit for that too.

I feel like the cost to go around the tip of South America would be too great and I don't know how many of those big boys can fit through the Panama Canal. The largest so far as 52 meters across, but I have no idea the average size or draft of some of those ships

It might not be feasible but at least he's telling the world that the Commiefornians are inept at doing their jobs. Perhaps if things get really bad then companies might start thinking into that idea. They can't go north into those other "well run states" *sarcasm* like Oregon and Washington to unload perhaps they can unload into Mexico and ship it north. I'm sure the Mexicans would welcome the work.

I saw a tweet today (can't find it now) from a sailor off Galveston. He said I've been sailing these waters for decades and have never seen THIS. He then panned the horizon and I counted at least 8 freighters at anchor off Galveston. He asked I wonder why this is?

Then he looked at the camera and said, "Oh I know. It's Joe Biden's America!"

The Panama Canal has been significantly expanded recently. Also, the northeast ports are like California, those are the ships Florida is after.

I actually used to work in the business... managed several export services for Evergreen (one of the ships was called the Ever Respect, which is how I got my screen name).
Cargo heading West will end up in Norfolk, Charleston, and Savannah because of the rail infrastructure and centralized location. Also, Northeast ports still aren't nearly as bad as California. Can't say I ever had any problems with New York or Baltimore. Strong unions (especially NY), but the expense is still worth it with the population. That's where the cargo is going so still cheaper to pay off the longshoremen than to go south and truck/rail it to the Northeast. Florida ports are pretty efficient, but location hurts them and the other Southeast ports are also pretty efficient.

Season 2 of "The Wire" does a good job (to my untrained eye) of depicting this port dynamic.
