RE: Big East Expansion
I bet that Dayton, St. Louis, Wichita State, VCU are of interest to them.

The four I listed above might, as would possibly UMass.

As for Temple, the Philly market already had Villanova.

St. Louis and UMass add markets and fit the league culture, but will Fox pay for more schools?

Creighton is out on an island.

UConn/Providence
St. John's/Seton Hall
Georgetown/Villanova
Xavier/Butler
DePaul/Marquette
Creighton

Based on that, St. Louis or Wichita would be logical adds

I don’t get the Wichita St. infatuation. What have they done before or after Marshall? Too risky for a member that doesn’t fit the institutional profile and isn’t located in the epicenter.

Big East might need to look for 12 as well due to Big 12 now having 12 and probably going away from round robin schedule- which can hurt a conference in the middle getting teams into the tourney.

RE: Big East Expansion
I give the likelihood of the Big East expanding to be somewhere in the 3-5% ballpark. Adding Connecticut was great for both the conference and the school. I'm sure the conference will always have a spot open for Syracuse and maybe even Pittsburgh but those are longshot odds compared to Connecticut. Boston College might as well never have been a Big East member at this point. The conference is at 11 members and 12 might be better. For a minute I thought West Virginia had a chance but the XII seems to have stabilized in the Mountaineers favor, for now. My best guesses for candidates: Dayton and Saint Louis. I'm not sure VCU fits the mold. The remind me a lot of Wichita St and, outside of nabbing a school like Kansas, I don't see the Big East adding publics other than Connecticut.

I think they stay at 11 but add Saint Louis, if anyone.

I think Drake would be a good fit and pairs with Creighton.

Another good suggestion, but are they good enough? They were good last year, but is that enough?

This would be the one thing I could see resulting in an A10 team leaving. St Louis or Dayton would be most likely, with St Louis helping to fill out that map a bit nicer to have all the states connected.

Don't think either UMass or VCU would be considered as neither of us is UCONN. But VCU would likely be the choice over us if they do go with another large public.

Asked about going national, and perhaps eyeing a certain Catholic school in Spokane, Ackerman said, "nothing is crazy in this environment but we're also mindful of details, like travel and logistics. Geography is not insurmountable, but it's kind of high on the list.[/php]

Are UCONN & Butler Catholic Universities?

Thank
