Add UAB, pick 1 other team that makes you puke the least, wait around to see if the B12 actually does anything else once OU/UT leave and then react from there. Cash the exit fee checks from the 3 departing members and keep moving.

I'm sorry it hurts ECU's pride, but the AAC doesn't look very good for the 2023 season.
This is a good opportunity for an east coast school such as ECU to be close to the middle of a new conference.

Umm and you think those lineups on either side would look good for the 2023 season? Also forget ECU's pride, the school your name claims you support SMU is the least likely school possible to agree to this.

https://csnbbs.com/thread-931880-post-17...id17724360

My point was that there is absolutely zero chance the president of SMU agrees to that. There's actually a better chance the chancellor of ECU does, he still wouldn't, but Terry Holland for years dreamed of trying to do this and there's a tiny portion of the ECU fan base that desires a regional league for "reasons" so it would get considered for about a half second longer than SMU and Tulane's presidents consider it.

Works just the same, the odds were basically zero for all those things.

Who cares what Aresco says, the school presidents make the decisions not him.

AAC media revenues are going to be greatly reduced no matter what. And this proposal greatly reduces travel cost plus puts the kids in the classroom more often.

The presidents job is to educate kids and run a financially sound institute of higher learning. This is a divide and conquer strategy, don’t be surprised if it works.

CSU and AFA wanted to go but they didn't. They got brow beaten.

That being said, the AAC didn't engage them in that process.

In fact, the interest that came from CSU and AFA is only backing up the AAC's status as being the top G5. So, they stepped away from the process. That's not a black mark on the AAC's end.

Just let the expansion process play out. Maybe Army is involved. Maybe they aren't. The only things people are hearing aren't coming out of Dallas.

You've been mostly wrong on this the entire time. A few people at CSU and AFA totally misread the institutions they are representing - a case of the grass really isn't greener on the other side - and Aresco overplayed his hand as well.

Fact is that it makes little or no sense for teams from either league to switch at this point - no economic benefit.

AAC had a slight edge on the MWC, but that gap will vanish with UC, UH and UCF

Houston, UC, UCF and BYU aren't going to get equal shares in the Big 12 for a while.

I think it has a shot. More than you "negative" guys think.

It has the same shot the AAC had to raid the B12.

Could the reorganization keep it to 10?

West: UTSA, UNT, Rice, SMU, Tulsa, Memphis, LaTech, Tulane, USM, UAB
East: UMass, Temple, Navy, Marshall, JMU, ODU, ECU Charlotte, FAU, USF

Leaves out WKU, MT, UTEP, FIU from CUSA who can try for the SBC or WAC.

Heck, with those 4 and NMSU along with UConn as a Fb member only, the WAC can upgrade to FBS status with some of the new Texas schools.

You guys make like 500k per school on your media deals. For ECU right now according to the Knight Commission numbers ECU currently spends 5.71 million on game and travel expenses. Even if this proposed shakeup for ECU would cut that number in half, which I actually find unlikely, for it to make financial sense for ECU the TV revenue of a reconstituted AAC and these regional leagues would probably need to be almost equal to make up for potentially lost tournament credit revenue (AAC makes a bunch more money on this and with Houston's Final 4 run will be making a bunch more for years to come) and shares of exit fees.

Edit-there's no way this proposed league would actually cut that 5.71 game and travel expenses anywhere near in half. Just checked around at what some MAC schools spend on that. Toledo spends 4.2 million, Miami of Ohio 3.2 million, Bowling Green 3.2 million, and this league wouldn't be near as regional as the MAC is. So basically it would maybe save ECU 1 million or so on travel cost at best.

Since the signature of North Texas' President is on that letter I take that to mean they are not on the AAC expansion target list. The document would have been more meaningful if we saw the signatures from UAB, Charlotte, UTSA and FAU on that document.

Combine that with SBC interest in schools like Marshall, North Texas and Southern Miss, you see the potential decimation of CUSA.

Note from the SI article shows SBC media deal at $500,000. This was also reported by the Orlando Sentinel last week. Despite this several SBC posters still claim the 1.2-1.4 million dollar range. Belt folks in disbelief as they were told the higher figure by some.

Unequal media revenue distribution might make the reorganization happen.

Lets forget the fact that both leagues have TV contracts that they'd basically have to break to do this, there's no reasonable level of unequal split that would make this work. Then you'd have to figure out a way to make the AAC members leaving the AAC shell whole for the difference in tournament credit revenue between the AAC and C-USA plus figure out a way to divide up the exit fees coming from the departing 3, who might try to argue they don't have to pay them at that point.

I just don't think it matters. The G5 conferences are all going to end up with about the same payout. They'll get the same cut from the CFP next cycle and the networks will see to it to "match" them all with MWC money.

Just like it doesn't matter really for bowls. That was a reason to scream for an upgrade at one time.

A reorg would in theory cancel out those fees.

CUSA is not on ESPN so they lose a lot of visibility. The SBC can only raid CUSA after the AAC decimates them, which I expect to happen.

The once great AAC is following the same slow path as the once great C-USA. They can drag it out, but it is inevitable.

The P5s are going to take what ever little value there is to take out of the G5 and leave the rest. That is what’s happening.

We can go through another round of exit fees and entrance fees to make the impression that you got the best teams and are the best G5, but it’s all a joke and they will all even out eventually. There just isn’t that much left.

It sounds like the AAC may be taking regionalism seriously by considering expanding by 8 CUSA/SBC teams.

This way they cut down on travel costs and stay the top G5 league in the south with adds like Appalachian State.
