Coach Bryant was a very sharp guy. I lived in Alabama in 1968 thru 1974. I would watch his TV show on Sunday afternoons and listen to his wise sayings.

I think that we Memphis fans should take this to heart.

Dude had 1 losing season in his career. What does he know about losing. I'd be more interested to hear what Mike Dubose or Larry Porter have to say about losing.

"Show me a good loser and I'll show you a frequent loser."-Vince Lombardi, who also had limited experience with losing.

I think you would hear a lot of excuses on why they couldn't win and that would put in their category as a looser. I rather listen to someone that has been a winner like Bear Bryant, Vince Lombardi or Mark Few.

Even closed captioning has trouble with that

You had to have been there. Coach Bryant’s teams went 6-5 in both 1968 and 1969. Bama fans were very restless, and the Huntsville paper questioned whether Bear had lost his touch. Believe me, that was a crisis in Alabama.

Of course, we all know that Bear Bryant talked to Texas coach Darryl Royal, then Bama came out in the wishbone in 1970 and went 11-1.

Losing 5 games a season at Alabama is far worse than my Memphis Tigers losing three games in a row.

It was a joke.
About taking advice from someone about losing with humility, who never really lost at any profound level.
It's pretty easy for the winner to tell the loser to hold his head up.
Rooted in reality, but still a joke.

I mean, I do agree with the philosophy.
A man is defined - not by his actions in prosperity - but by his actions in adversity.
Or something like that.
Just don't give me one of the biggest winners of all time as the banner carrier for losing with humility.
