So, if we want to maximize our chances of getting into the B12, I think you MUST do it. Under normal circumstances, CRS definitely would deserve time, but these are not normal circumstances. We must MAKE SURE we keep the football program rolling.

That's a hell of a good way to deter future candidates from the job.

That’s the least of our worries at this time. Once we get in the B12, hiring coaches wont be too difficult. If we dont get in within a few years, it wont really matter near as much.

Everyone hires a lemon every so often, if that’s how this plays out. They know we can win and win big. There’s no reason to think we won’t again. The support is there to make it happen. I see no reason to take him out back and shoot him just yet.

It’s hard to know what THEY will think. If he really is a lemon (jury is still
out) and we have a couple of losing seasons with small crowds, we wont be looking very attractive. They have other options with bigger markets & better academics. We MUST have a string football program at the time they make their move.

Not even remotely comparable.

Porter won three games in two years and HAD to go. No one faults firing someone like that from any program.

You don't fire someone with Silverfield's record after two seasons. Period.

Do it though, and you will have the Fuentes of the world second guessing the job offer.

The porter and Silverfield comparisons are insane. Three games in two years. No coach is going to say “well you didn’t give him a chance” when porter was so far over his head and everyone in CFB knew it.

If you listed the most stupid things we could do to try and get into the Big 12; hiring Freeze would be the most stupid. We have an ambassador telling us that our pending case with the IARP is an issue and a bad look.

Some of our fans have lost their minds; if they even had one to begin with.

Are we wanting a football coach or a life cosch?

Anyone here think Bear Bryant was an angel? The media didn't cover people's personal s h I t back then the way they do now.

Today anything a celeb type person says or does in even a semi private setting is subject to being recorded on someone's smart phone and bring posted up on the internet within 5 minutes.

The PC movement has expanded to cover almost every single element and facet of society and had forced everyone and e erything to be watered down and vanilla else you risk being canceled. Every special interest group has banded together to support every other special interest group to become a large unchained rabid dog roaming free through our societal neighborhood looking for its next meal.

The Nazis would be astounded and amazed at how effective the liberal, Marxist PC crowd has been allowed to become.

Memphis is in a very unique position. We have to prove our football program is capable of maintaining momentum regardless of the coaching change and cannot afford a significant drop off. I can’t think of another program in our situation. Boise has proven to be a viable brand. USF was but lost momentum and is now on the outside looking in. What other program has as much to lose & has as much riding on the shoulders of a rookie head coach. It’s not fair to Ryan but he has to win and it has to be now… the future of Memphis athletics is riding on it.

Yeah, but with the talent Penny has this year he could be at Pastner level coaching incompetence and still make the NCAA tournament.

Penny is not quite an the same boat but they wins will come and he has hired a veteran HOF coach to help.

Silverfield otoh, will have to go if he can't right this ship quickly, which many have lost faith in his ability to do so.

I dont know if anyone that is really questioning if Penny will succeed, it is how quickly.

Thus far Penny has been swimming upstream and everyone knows it. Silverfield otoh is at best treading water, but it looks like the current has overwhelmed him.

Idk but they timing is bad for our football program to regress. I think Silverfield (rightly or wrong) is very much in the hot seat right now.

I suspect that the IARP might be an issue for timing of conference realignment. But I doubt it is a permanent strike. There are too many others with worse issues. I agree it is a bad look, but not the deal breaker.

The Ambassador seems to have insight on some micro items - like players and coaches. But he does seem to miss a lot on macro items - like conference realignment, and last year's "cancellation" of the entire college football season. Good chance he doesn't have the full story on the IARP as well.

EDIT: To be clear. I do NOT think Silverfield is even close to the hotseat. And I do not think Freeze would be the first call even if he was. I think The Ambassador is correct on this one - it will be at least 2 more years before this would even be considered.

The IARP didnt just pop up in the last few weeks. If its a problem now, wouldnt it have been one back when we were 2nd on everyone's list?

That was the excuse that was given to Griffin by his sources.

Not even remotely comparable.

Porter won three games in two years and HAD to go. No one faults firing someone like that from any program.

You don't fire someone with Silverfield's record after two seasons. Period.

Do it though, and you will have the Fuentes of the world second guessing the job offer.

What other program has as much to lose & its riding on the shoulders of a rookie head coach. It’s not fair to Ryan but he has to win and it has to be now… the future of Memphis athletics is riding on it.

I think Penny is in the same boat.

Yeah, but with the talent Penny has this year he could be at Pastner level coaching incompetence and still make the NCAA tournament.

PASTNER ? Is that the guy that actually took us to our last few tournaments --and that won a GLOBAL championship ---that guy
