I guess we’ve given up on getting into the Big 12.
You don’t get rid of head coaches in their second season at a school like ours. Adjustments need to be made but if you get rid of Silverfield every other coach taking this job will remember that. Much better to be the nonP5 school (hopefully P5) that coaches go to for several years and then go to VA Tech or FL State.
I don’t know why some of this is so hard to understand. It wasn’t that long ago that we were known amongst coaches as a “coaching graveyard.”
You want to really not get into a P5? Have a coaching carrousel.
Um--remind me again how long Porter was HC-----before we hired Fuente
Are you really comparing Silverfield to Porter?
I mean that’s “down dog dirty low.”
Do you not remember what you posted ? You said a school like MEMPHIS doesn't get rid of a coach in his second year

I have always believed, and still do, that IF they choose two more soon we'll be in. But the longer it goes, the worse for us. One season won't change that, it's just depressing to see a coach who keeps saying the same things and getting the same results. If this goes on another season, however, it starts to look like a trend. Anyway, it's all just our opinions, nothing we say here matters. As Griffin said, we've got RS for a good while whether we want him or not.

A drop in football won't kill us if Penny's men come through. A couple of excellent basketball years will do it for us as long as football doesn't completely tank.

Offensive line? The OL that gave up several sacks & hurries on our freshman QB to a Tulsa team that only rushed 3?

You’re misquoting me. I was referencing schools with a way bigger AD budget than ours that have gone through coach after coach.
Even at the P5 level pulling the trigger on a coach too early can have a domino effect.

RE: Silverfield's contract
I think it could be more clearly stated this way...
You don't axe a coach with a 2-year career winning record, with no other program issues, after one .500 season. We can't afford to, and it's a bad look. Much worse look to the B12 than a .500 season (with an SEC win).
Now if we limp to the end of season with a 4-8ish record, then his hotseat might be escalated to next year.

Rey Dempsey 84-85
Charlie Bailey 86-88
Larry Porter 10-11
The $EC lap dog really ramps up the comedy act when Auburn loses.
Dempsey 7-12-3
Bailey 12-20-1
Porter 3-21
Silverfield 11-6
Undoubtedly, what he meant is that you don't fire a coach when he has a winning record after two seasons.

I didnt start this thread
I just predicted this thread would happen
And Dempsey and Bailey were not fired for their record.

Basketball has almost? virtually? absolutely? whatever it is it's some level of no bearing on realignment. At best a it's a pot sweetener. Football is driving the bus. If we're trying to get into the Big 12, it's the football program that needs to be attractive enough to get us in, and if we get left out on the next go round, it's probably not a good prognosis for basketball being able to remain relevant.

Basketball does not matter in realignment.

I tried to tell errrbody a couple games ago. Our Oline is .... not good. And is probably on par with the deficits on defense (scheme)... if not a worse problem.

Yeah, TGTiger, he's correct. We DID get rid of Porter after 2 years, and you did say "you don't get rid of head coaches in their second season at a school like ours".
Of course, what he is "misquoting" is the context. You don't do it "at a school like ours", unless it is extraordinarily obvious the guy is in over his head... Like not being about to line up right, and getting blown out every game.
That is not the case with Silverfield.

It was shocking seeing a 3 man rush collapse the pocket play after play with 6 linemen blocking.
