A Pitt fan who claimed to be sitting with GT boosters said the folks from GT said that Collins is hated by the team and they were going to have to buy him out. This was the first I'd heard anything like that. Any GT fans have any insight?

I sure hope so. But this is the first I have heard. The AD Todd Stansbury has a history with Geoff Collins & Brent Key (from UCF Days).... AD TSTAN hired Geoff so he his protected to a point. I do know the fans hate Geoff Collins this is as bad as Bill Lewis Era. only 36K tickets were sold for the game vs Pitt and probably only 29K showed up...sad really sad

I also know they have money to buy him out. The GTAA AI2020 goal of 125M raised actual produced 40% over goal and they raked in over 175Million. They need to buy him out!

If they do I think a Bill Obrien or George Godsey hire would spark the fanbase and sell season tickets with some of the coaching staff staying. (Coleman, Choice, Key)

RE: We suck - Fire Geoff Collins
Is a coaching change really a good idea?

Most of the time, losing fans at games causes such financial strain that there really is no choice BUT to move on from a coach. But apparently, Georgia Tech is flush with cash right now. Football results hasn't seemed to hurt fund raising at all.

It seems to me that whoever took over for Paul Johnson's "flexbone spread option" would need enough time to change the roster over to suit a more traditional style. And that there would definitely be some lumps taken on the way to this transition. We're not even 3 years into this. AND .... there is the absurdly difficult "covid year", where you had severely restricted contact with your team, no spring, no summer ball, to teach systems and all that jazz .... this only makes the transition harder.

From the outside looking in, it would seem to me to be a knee-jerk reaction to can Collins now. Just my two cents.

Collins is safe for now. The same cannot be said of his coordinators. Having NIU hand you your *** with a two TE overload that to this day you still look befuddled by isn't exactly a promotional bellringer. Secondary and WR still seem sketchy at best.

Ok, let me try and spell out what is happening on the FLATS.... BILL LEWIS PART II... Why do I say this? I went to an alumni club meeting this summer and the GT Alum Assn folks were talking up how much Coach Collins was saying he was ready to win this season. However football still requires fundamentals such as blocking and tackling. Regardless of schemes. Most Georgia Tech fans and alum are smart enough to want to see a good offense and good defense. Not get blown out several times a year. (Which is what the Geoff Colins Clown show has done) This explains why there was 30,000 empty seats for the Georgia Tech vs Pitt game.

So a week ago most Fans and Alum (who have not put down the Coach Collins kool aid yet) had the belief that if GT beat Pitt we'd be in the driver's seat for the coastal, however its hard to say Coach Collins could never win an ACC championship. However beating a top 10 opponent? No way, I don't think so, unless its an early season win over a grossly overranked team. (kinda like the recent North Carolina game) A 10 win season? Not without some major staffing changes. Given enough time, he could maybe, possibly accomplish all three. But that might take 10-15 seasons at the rate we are going and I don't think he will be here that long along with the fact that most fans hope he is shown the door sooner than later. All you have to do is listen to the 30,000 empty seats at last weeks game.

We can thank Coach Collins for the uptick in recruiting and now the AD needs to bring in a P-5 coaching staff to get us back to winning 7 games annually with a few 9 & 10 win seasons in between.

Well, if it has to be this year, then he's going to get fired. I don't see 6 wins for GT this year. You do have a tough schedule remaining.

TBH, Georgia Tech has one of the toughest schedules in the country this year (so does FSU, btw). How much that factors into the decision, IDK.

I think he still gets there at 5 wins with a hangover of NIU death stares into the next season. As much as Collins needs to get bigger wins like UNC, he also needs to start throttling lesser teams instead of playing down to them or even worse.

4* QB committed to GT today. The '22 class continues to build. If what is out there that is expected to go GT goes GT ... this will be hands down their best recruiting class since the '07 one, and no worse than second since modern recruiting rankings began around '04 or so.

Like I said ... Collins is safe. The same may not be said for some assistants and coordinators.

Looks like he is hoping for an Auburn offer... Glad he chose us over Vandy and Arkansas and hoping that no one else comes calling.

22 is a weird recruiting year. Several SEC teams are currently fielding 100+ man rosters. They will be forced to return to the 85 limit next year. So some teams like Auburn and Alabama may have microscopic recruiting classes compared to normal because they have to slim down their roster in a big huge hurry.

Also 247 lists him as a 4*.

I wish we would pursue Lane Kiffin. He brought Bama’s offense out of the dark ages, did a remarkable turnaround at FAU and has done well at Ole Miss. Lane would have a much easier time recruiting in Atlanta and always be in contention for the ACC championship. He would have a much easier time than competing in the SEC West.

Hugh Freeze in ATL would be scary.

Can GT afford to pay its OC as much or more than Ole Miss pays its head coach?

If there is a change at OC/DC, breaking out the check books will be part of that.

3-3 with a much needed bye week. If they're going bowling though, he needs to win 3 out of the next four: @UVA, VT, @Miami, BC.

That's possible, but not likely. Most likely they land just short of a bowl at 5 wins. If they'd have just not crapped the bed in week one, that'd be a bowl.
