I believe Matt is posting this as an "educated guess" and I do not see it as coming true. Everything I continue to hear is AAC takes 2.

I getcha, Chief. I didn't see anything posted on our board and decided to share it. I don't know Brown or how reliable he is.

I don't think he has the sources of a McMurphy etc, but he's made enough of a name for himself that he does hear things.

Is this guy 129? He’s predicted every add to the AAC only to watch each move to be turned down.

Kinda like he predicted AFA & Colorado State to AAC were done deals?

RE: Matt Brown drops a "bomb shell"
To be fair he didn’t flat out say “done deals” but he did say at one point “he would be shocked if they didn’t go to the American” (and then stated how surprised he was they backed out).

This isn’t “a bomb” as he even says “well educated guess” (meaning he’s heard from of his sources 1-2 of these schools in play and is throwing out another two based on additional discussions)

Good for Marshall if they get an invite but I still can’t help but think AAC is gonn pull CUSA moves and focus on schools in big tv market cities

AAC is about to be a second version of the current CUSA once Memphis bolts.

Ranging from Temple to Texas, spending twice the cash with results not much different than other G5 programs.

Anyone have map if those schools join?

If they do go AAC that seems a bit surprising to me after all of the posts indicating Marshall really wants an east coast league. Spending way more money to join an unstable league, little hope of recouping costs, and worse travel situation than what they have now - bold strategy for sure. But the AAC does sponsor mens soccer so they have that going for them.

That is a great point. Furthers the thesis that one herd poster will jump to the flavor of the day and proclaim it the best place for them.

The positive of this post means we won’t have to deal with Marshall posters telling us what we should do with our conference. We add USM and welcome back WKU. Still feel a little bad for TxSt out on an island.

Of course if those 4 go, when Memphis ultimately heads to the Big XII, Marshall and ECU will be trying hard to direct the conference East with either JMU being added or App gets the AAC. Which App will go to be with Marshall and ECU.

This would essentially be C-USA 4.0 or C-USA 2.5, I can’t decide which.

CUSA 4.0? Gets worse with each version.

I really really really hope the smoke around us going to the Belt is fire. We’ve been with most of the AAC school since the days of the Southern Independents. Most aren’t anything that is going to move the meter at USM (ECU Memphis if they stayed) but that is about it. Rather have a steady diet of UL USA Troy ULM stAte App and Coastal. I could get behind that.

If Charlotte goes, it's definitely going to make a lot of GSU fans question the plans and efforts of our AD even more. A caveat, as always, that I realize the AAC doesn't clearly have a brighter future long-term than the Belt, but that move is going to raise eyebrows, just like it did when all those other big city schools with brand new programs got CUSA invites and we (presumably) didn't.

This is the same guy you guys have said 100 times was the most reliable and well connected person in terms of G5 realignment.

Now that he says something you don't like we have everyone saying he doesn't have a clue or connections 03-lmfao

I would prefer a new conference with CUSA East and SBC East teams over the AAC.

But the new AAC is definitely better than current CUSA or the SBC.

How is that even a question? How in the world do you think the SBC is better than this proposed AAC or any version of the AAC for that matter.

Way more TV money even after the upcoming pay cut.

Multi bid basketball league even after the big 3 leave.

Way better TV deal in terms of exposure, even after the upcoming cut.

Way better brand name recognition for the AAC teams.

Way better bowl tie ins.

Way better in all other sports as well.

Better average attendance in football and basketball.

Literally, every measure possible, the AAC is better.

RE: Matt Brown drops a "bomb shell"
The upside return on the current Sun Belt is greater than any potential advantage a jump to what’s left of the AAC would offer.

Sun Belt leaves Florida on an island. This is good for a host of reasons.

The state of Georgia and Atlanta and it’s millions of eyeballs and ballers.

Multiple Sun Belt members making significant progress in rankings and facilities.

Middle of the conference are all recent conf champs.

Tight foot print = less travel.

ESPN.

Outstanding travel destinations.

Add USM and either Marshall or FAU or both and one more and what’s not to like? The train is firmly on the tracks.
