Exclamation Guidugli vs Ridder
In terms of career stats, Gino has the UC record for total yards passing and passing TD's. Desmond is clearly within range to surpass Gino's TD record:

Passing Yards
11,453 Guidugli
7,653 Ridder

Passing TD's
78 Guidugli
64 Ridder

Ridder would have to pass for nearly 400 yards per game over the next 10 to sniff Gino's record. Not likely. On the flip, he only needs to toss an average of 1.5 TD passes over the next 10 games to set the record. Doable. What's incredible for Rid is on the rushing side. Right now he has 1,897 career yards and wait for it...wait...24 rushing TD's. Combined with his passing numbers, that is some elite company for a college QB.

RE: Guidugli vs Ridder
Des' rushing numbers are so crazy he is actually tied with Reggie Taylor for the 6th most rushing TDs by a Bearcat in school history (24). He'll likely crack the top 10 for career rushing yards as well.

Gino has the school record for Total Offensive yards (passing and rushing) at 11,661. Des is #2 on the list all-time with 9,550 yards after the Indiana game. Baring an injury, he'll top Gino.

RE: Guidugli vs Ridder
If it would have been a full Junior season that wasn’t cut short by Covid he would have also had an extra 4 games. Will be interesting to see how close he can get and whether those additional 4 games would have impacted the record. Obviously we will never really know, but it’s interesting to consider.

Regardless he is a Bearcat legend.

Most important number to me is wins. Gino’s teams were always very average. His sophomore and junior seasons were huge disappointments. 36 to 31 TD to INT those years compared to 42 to 17 ration in first and last season.

Gino also had the misfortune of playing against a first ballot NFL hall of famer in some of his UC vs MU games.

First let me state that Des has already had a better career than Gino regardless of anything else. That said wins is the worst measure, it's completely dependent on the quality of teams around you. How many Minter bearcats could play for Fickell? There were some exceptions but we aren't even on the same planet as the program 20 years ago

Wins may be a poor measurement for a quarterback, but it is the only measurement I care about.

By my count Ridder has 34 wins as a starter. Here’s an article I found from 2017 regarding the Top 5 winningest QB’s in College Football History (not sure if anyone since 2017 has joined the list or if it’s even accurate but…

1. Kellen Moore 50-3
2. Colt McCoy 45-8
3. Andy Dalton 42-7
4. David Greene 42-10
5. Peyton Manning 39-6

RE: Guidugli vs Ridder
Gino played with some exceptional skill guys- Ladaris Vann, Tye Keith, Hannibal Thomas, Richard Hall, DeMarco McCleskey, etc. The biggest difference between now and then is the depth of talent at each position group and coaching.

It’s hard to compare the two- Gino was a gunslinger and Des is a dual-threat. I think with Gino, we tend to look back at his career with rose colored glasses because of who he is. He put up some gowdy numbers, but if you do a deep dive into the memory bank he had a lot of brain farts as well.

At the end of the day, QB’s win the game for you. If we were talking about QB’s who have won comparable number of games it would be one thing, but Des’ w/l record is so far greater than Gino’s there really is nothing to argue about other than style points.

Gino and Gunner were two biggest disappointments in my view at the QB spot based on their potential shown in their first year. Both played about five years too soon as their time at UC came at transition periods.

Does Ridder, Tony Pike, Ben Muak, and Zack Collaros are the QB’s I associate with winning big. All four had a lot to with it but they were also here at the right time.

Gunner is the antithesis of Des. Not trying to knock the guy, he was extremely talented but Gunner just did not have "it". Des is the classic "intangibles" guy. He's a winner, a leader, is tough as nails, whatever cliche you want to attach to him.

It’s sorta like Supreme Court Justice Potter Stuart’s statement in 1964 on defining obscenity...We’ll know it when we see it.

RE: Guidugli vs Ridder
Ridder has grown up, matured and developed before our very eyes. The run first, pass second skinny kid who showed up on the victory at UCLA is now a Heisman hopeful and potential first round NFL draft pick. It's a wonderful, beautiful story of a guy who desired to keep improving and fighting for himself and his team.
