RE: How do you feel about your teams coaching staff?
This UH fan's opinion...

Holgs last two seasons were real bummers, not what UH fans were expecting when he was hired, nor what we remember when he was our OC.

The start of this season felt like nothing changed as we gave up a sizeable lead to TTech in the last half of the ball game in the season opening loss, but since then, the team put together a 4 game winning streak, something that never happened in Holgs' first 2 seasons.

I gotta admit, I like what I am seeing, even though some will point out the teams we beat were not very good, but before going into the games there was a definite tangible fear that we would lose to either Navy or Tulsa. Maybe the Holgorsen haters were hoping out loud so they could see him gone?

The season is only 1/3rd of the way done, still much to see, but if the team continues to improve then I think he will win over the fans as well... winning cures all, after all.

To be honest, I am pleasantly surprised at what I have seen as of late from Dana Holgorsen. Maybe he’s finally gotten us back on track? It’s too early to tell at this point. We still have a lot of football left to play, but other than the Texas Tech game, we’re looking pretty good so far.

It should come as no surprise, but feeling really good. My largest anxieties on the coaching staff side is always losing all or parts of it. Coach Fick really is different. That being said it's extremely rare for someone to stay at one place over an extended period and Fick is arguably the hottest name in football. Just trying to enjoy the moment but those thoughts always linger. In addition to the primary coaching staff, Fick has assembled a monster group of assistants. I really worry about losing them as well. From recruiting to development to game day Xs and Os, this coaching staff is excellent. We'll lose some just like we did with Freeman. Sucks but I guess that's the price of seeing success like this. I hope with the B12 invite UC ponies up to pay Fick and his assistants.

We are DEEP, DEEP, DEEP in a hole. But I think that we finally made a good choice. We don’t HAVE to be a dumpster fire. But we made several really poor hires in a row, and have to dig out from there. The good thing is that Coach Leipold has a track record of success, and is clearly rooted in fundamentals. There are no shortcuts here. We need someone to maximize limited resources as Snyder did at KSU. If we do show signs of life, support will come.

For UCF too early to know. He is good at the microphone, and I don't think Huep left him tons to work with, then lose 7starters in 3 weeks. More than willing to give him a pass for this season.

Y'all should be able to pull at least a few decent athletes in from year to year. I mean I know you're a basketball school, but Gayle Sayers, arguably the best pure athlete in NFL history, is known as "the Kansas Comet" for a reason. Use him (or at least his name) as a recruiting tool to get kids to play football in Lawrence. Also, KU ain't too far from Kansas City so it's not like you can't utilize a major market in your area. I'm sure there are a lot of talented kids in the Kansas City metro area.

RE: How do you feel about your teams coaching staff?
I'm starting to get on the fence about Patterson and his staff, he is in his 22nd season at TCU and has done absolutely incredible things for our football program. One of the things that I believe makes Patterson so respected is his loyalty to his staff ,the downside of that is that I feel like the innovation has become stale. He hasn't brought a whole lot of diversity of thought around him and due to that I think a lot of our schemes have become easier for opponents to plan for over the years.

The flip side is that the grass isn't always greener and one or two bad coaching hires after Patterson could really have TCU sitting in a different place.

Couldn't be more satisfied with Big Fick and his staff. I never dreamed we'd ever hire another staff that would compare to Brian Kelly after he left for Notre Dame. We just beat him in his house. Not worried anymore about Fick leaving for another job. That threat is at every program not named Alabama and a few others. Fick has stayed for a fifth season and now that we are coming to the B12 that takes another factor to leave off his list. I also feel that Cincinnati has enough success capital that we can attract top coaches well into the future.

What’s scary for me to consider is that Gale Sayers would be about as relatable to recruits today as Red Grange would have been to my generation. Time marches relentlessly forward. But your point is taken - we do have a major metro nearby, not just for a recruiting base but also as a place of entertainment to offer recruits from other areas. It’s a short car ride from Lawrence to KC, in contrast to places like Manhattan that are more remote. We can also use the power of the brand even if most of its equity comes from hoops. Bill Self occasionally gives speeches to the football team as well as the basketball team.

RE: How do you feel about your teams coaching staff?
HC Kilani Sitake is a great fit for BYU. He has really grown into the role and established a successful culture and strategy. The more success he has, the hotter of a commodity that he will be. But, Sitake indicated early on that he wants to be the "Polynesian LaVell Edwards" so I am hopeful that he stays for the long haul.

Our fan base is brutal with its criticism of DC Tuiaki and his bend-don't-break philosophy. Gratefully, message board posters don't call the shots - we haven't trailed in a game this season and our defense is the key part of that.

Ive been very impressed by how good BYU is even after losing so much production, you might even have a better team than last year.

UCF has the opposite approach on D. It is break so you don't have to bend.

How did Houston get such an easy schedule? I'm still looking for UCONN to show up somewhere down the line. We'll see what happens when they play SMU.

I think UCF needs a new WR coach. We were late with the hiring so we got bottom of the barrel at WR coach. Our ST needs improvement but that's players not coaching I fear.

As long as Like Fickell is here I’m confident he will hire the right guys.

Two edged sword... on the one hand, winning gets easier, but on the other, nobody notices. Anyway, it's not like it was hand-picked by UH because it was so light, nor were we able to change it. LOL

I had such high hopes for the rest of the AAC to step it up, but, sigh... some teams just insist on being perpetually bad.

All I can say is Cincy, if we meet in the champ game, please have your concession stands ready with lots of booze spiked hot chocolate/coffee for us Houstonians that will travel to play in freezing cold weather to a most certain beat down.

And please don't get offended if our Basketball team takes it out on yours later. 04-cheers

I'm highly skeptical that Holgs will ever be more than a .500 coach. Maybe he will prove me wrong.
