Sounds like all of it. But we know how city money gets spent around Memphis.

How does the city procuring a naming rights contract on their stadium have any bearing on what the university does? Just because this contract happens doesn't mean the OCS push is dead.

I'm sure the city thinks this will solve all woes.

There is a paywall on the article. Is there a dollar amount?

Now the City has removed itself from helping on the OCS, forcing the play by focusing on updating the LB stadium.

Only an out-of-town entity would be foolish enough to do that.

Can anyone share the dollar amount?

At least we won’t be playing in the Liberty Bowl anymore.

I hope they don't get us confused with Simmons Bank Field in Pine Bluff, Simmons Bank Arena in Little Rock, or Simmons Bank Stadium in Alcorn MS.

Too bad we couldn't get a company local to Memphis to sell the naming rights to (Autozone or International Paper, anyone?)

If I win Powerball this weekend, I bet the new Claw OCS stadium is worth more.

Hope you’re right. But sounds like wishful thinking to me. Why in the world would Simmons Bank be buying into a naming rights deal without gaining a guarantee that it’s number one tenant is still going to be playing there for the foreseeable future? Unless, maybe they will also sponsor the new stadium once it’s built and the Liberty Bowl is blown up.

No, the dollar amount has not been specified yet. Seems weird

If it were to be ultimately about a new stadium, and the city is procuring the money, you can bet your ass it won't be on campus.

Neither side would ever mention the deal being close to being done without knowing a dollar amount, so they know the dollar amount, it has just not been announced yet I’ll bet when it is announced it will be more than you are thinking —- then we will find out that that is for the life of the contract and the yearly amount will be disappointing—-

It really only matters to the University if it means significant upgrades to the stadium - none of the $$$ is going to go to the athletic department

That will be very unfortunate. because there is only one football team in Memphis who needs a stadium and that is the Tigers. The sooner the city of Memphis jumps on that bandwagon thought process… The better for all parties.
