Belmont to the MVC
If they add UTA next, they are done and we are screwed. If they add Murray State, maybe both LR and UTA would go to the Summit which would make that league more acceptable to me. UMKC, ORU, and UTA would be close and potential rivals. Couldn't get 2 schools more like us then KC and Omaha, and UTA is pretty similar as well.

You have to also look at the OVC. Austin Peay announced that they are leaving too to join the ASUN I think. I just hope we pair up with UTA and go where they go honestly.

The OVC seems to be falling apart as we speak.

OVC does seem to be imploding.

This would have been a good time to have a savvy AD at the helm like Chase Conque, huh!

I sure hate this for you guys. As much as adding Southern Miss and Marshall excites me for football I hate to see a long time rival and conference mate get pushed out. I guess that's just life in the land of college athletics.

I asked this question on the Belt board, but don’t believe I ever got an answer. How does it hurt the league to keep LR and UTA. We are good travel partners for TxSt and AState. We are both decent in men’s basketball and LR is probably the best women’s BB program in the league,

OVC is losing Austin Peay, Belmont, and Murray State is probably next. Those are the best basketball schools in the league. Still it might be the best fit for us geographically. Financially speaking that may be very important.

Atlantic Sun has 13 teams with Austin Peay. That maybe our best option if the Belt and Valley don't want us.

I honestly don’t know other than perception. And for a conference that has seen that perception swing radically in its favor with football over the last ten years this probably matters in the home office.

Having non football playing members UTA and LR doesn’t have any negative impact on the SBC. There is absolutely no reason to believe they would be ejected by the league.

I’ve always felt the same way, but started getting worried when talk of UTA to the MoValley began. I think that would put us in a precarious position.

Just feel like it would be easier to “push” us out if we were the only non-football playing school. It would create uneven divisions in either football or basketball which some may see as a problem. So you feel confident we will be in the Belt, after this phase of realignment, if the MoValley doesn’t give us an offer.

Not saying we shouldn’t be proactive, but I don’t think it is a given the SBC would “push” anybody out. There is potentially a lot of things to shake out here, and conferences are generally feel that there is more safety in more numbers than less!

A couple of things to consider:

1) If Murray State opts to bail on the OVC, where do they go? MVC is certainly an option, but ASun is too. I would imagine basketball is more important at Murray State, and the MVC would seem more attractive. But, football for them would be clearly better in the ASun. It might depend a lot on the areas of the country they recruit the most from! And…

2) Given that the AAC will likely be looking for teams soon, what is the trickle down? Meaning what CUSA teams/ Sun Belt teams might be in the mix to move around? That could certainly have an impact on the SBC’s attitude on “pushing” anyone out!

Now official that Belmont will join the Missouri Valley and begin competition in 2022. This is the beginning of a process that could have direct impact on Little Rock. Not a good time to be without savvy leadership.

I have little doubt that Murray State is next. UTA looks like strong possibility. Not sure what our chance would be, but if MoState goes to a FBS football conference that may open up another spot. Someone on another board claims to have heard that 3 out of the following 4 could be added to the Valley- UTA, Murray State, ORU, and LR.

The MVCfans board talks about us being added as a package deal with UTA quite a bit. They see UTA as being “on an island” outside the league footprint and we would help with that. One can only hope.

RE: Belmont to the MVC
If we somehow end up in the MVC we will be a "winner" in this whole realignment deal. But, who knows what will happen. Folks on the Sun Belt board expect the MWC, the AAC, and the Sun Belt to pull all the best football programs out of CUSA. "Best" is relative in this case, but it will likely leave some of the better basketball programs in CUSA (maybe MTSU, WKU, LaTech, Old Dom, Charlotte). They may look to add UConn and UMass as football only members, which may open up the possibility of adding UTA and LR for all sports except football.
