Get rid of UTSA and Georgia State and you have instant improvement. Otherwise I hope SMU pays the exit fee and moves to the MWC.

Going to 16 takes care of anticipated defectors. Don't want anything to do with Boise. Possibly loose 2 at the max if the Big 12 survives the next round of raids. We could get as much as $3M more with a GOR, but some lack commitment. Go AAC!!!

What did you expect. We're adding AFA, CSU, UAB and someone else or someone else's. There are no great gets.

RE: The new American Athletic Conference
I think 16 is the ultimate target, but not before the P4 all go to 16, so I think we add 6 now 2 more in 2-4 years.

The 6 now in my best guess:

CSU
AFA
UNLV
UAB
SDSU ( I think they grow tired of BSU treating them like their ride-along bi*** & gain the most with the move & surpasses BSU for future NB12 invite).
6th is either BSU ( who doesn’t want SDSU to leave them and pass them by) or whoever ESPN tells us between Fresno/Rice/FAU/NM

When you get the next round & getting to 16 teams the landscape will be changed enough you can make a better case for market long shots like GSU/UTSA because you’re likely adding more than 2 at that time.

No, actually it belongs to UGA. GT just wants folks to think it's their market.

RE: The new American Athletic Conference
What about this? This is with the assumption that Boise stays put where they are because of the expected future Big12 invite. And I don’t feel confident about San Diego State coming, unless there are a number of other Mountain West schools brought into the mix.

So that leaves us with this. I think we will be at 12 football schools. Army and VCU are the big question marks. If we could get them both, I think we should try to go after two more solid basketball schools that carry baseball as well since we are losing so much with the departing schools.

Hesitant to grab two more football schools at this time, until we absolutely need to get them. Maybe two more later if we have more departures.

East
Army / VCU
ECU
Memphis
Temple
UAB
USF
Maybe Dayton here for basketball
West
Air Force
Colorado State
Navy / Wichita State
SMU
Tulane
Tulsa
And maybe Saint Louis here for basketball

That may be your best effort yet.

If Army's a no-go, substitute App. State or Coastal (whichever would do FB-only)

Otherwise, this might be close to what we can expect to see, though I would prefer Marshall, ULL, LTU, and Buffalo to UAB.

I like how you've penciled in Dayton and St. Louis (noting that one of those could equally go to a Loyola-Chicago).

If the AAC doesn't add enough good basketball schools, it will fall behind the "Major 7" BB conferences. . Crucially, being a "Major 7" (like the Big East) may be the only thing that keeps the American from being described as a "mid-major" conference.

Being referred to as a "mid-major" would be the kiss of death for the AAC.

Go Marshall! Go App. State! tied in 3 OT; game called due to early snow blizzard.

(I don't want either team to lose that game!).
