Exclamation Game Week: @UMass
My faith in my 'common sense' last night was rewarded. Playing top 10 caliber teams is never worth getting one's hopes up.

After the 1st half, I set the DVR, reclined on my couch and then next woke up and went to ESPN to see what I did or did not miss.

Maybe I can go to ESPN and find EMU's TD.

It was a very good day of FB, including the ORE / OSU game, and several MAC games but by the end of the day, 03-banghead

Anyway, EMU has a big job to bounce back from yesterday's game...

Anyway... injuries, etc. etc. let your thoughts flow...

One thought which I have been thinking: Two QBs can be good (if they have different style, e.g., one is a runner) but that doesn't seem true this year.

Sometimes a running QB can completely change the complexion of the offense.

We've played great teams before: LSU, Penn State, Michigan which brought entertainment and pride but going into the Wisconsin game, I knew there was NO WAY we were going to compete against their style of play and size. It really was not worth watching--but I did mostly, hoping we'd keep the score down. I would file this one under our Ohio State, Florida, and Top 10 Michigan State games...do NOT schedule a top P5 team unless we are a top MAC team. Leave these type opponents to Toledo, Buffalo etc. until we prove we can at least compete.

Bounce back game vs UMass. I think it will be a relief for the team knowing they are going to be able to execute their game plan without everything getting blown up on them. We survived the worst the season has to offer and I see a nice win to get us back on track.

The next two games will be better measuring sticks of where this team is this year.

RE: Game Week: @UMass
Looking forward to the game. UMass, my team, showed a huge improvement from week 1 to week 2 facing our second ACC team with FSU to go. In case a few of you visit, there is a visitors guide. Not sure if there will be same day parking rules or have to walk over a mile. This was in effect for the BC game, which also cancelled the student village in lot 11 and the Globe falsely reported no tailgating.

This should be a good game and measuring stick for both programs.

Agree 100%! This was a payday game with national TV exposure and NOTHING more. We learned zero about EMU on Saturday, other than we could not compete in the B1G, which we obviously already knew.

In 2019 Wisconsin beat CMU 61-0 and the Chips finished 6-2 in the MAC. The Badgers also smoked Kent St 48-0 that season while Kent finished 5-3 in our league. A lopsided 34-7 loss hardly portends MAC success but it does not predict disaster either.

Jerry, you are correct and I do need to temper my frustration. My frustration is more with the play calling and lack of creativity. i.e. why couldnt we get Drummond the ball in the 2nd half, and where was Westmoreland in the 1st? I missed the 1st quarter and watched it this morning and was actually impressed with Preston's decisions to pass vertically albeit his accuracy was off. I felt like we tried to run up the middle which is insane.

On to UMASS....

I agree 79. I think these next two games are really good games in terms of the opponents and timing. The opponents: both are even to a step below EMU in my eyes. The timing: we know what we are against an FCS and now we know what we are against a juggernaut in Wisconsin. These are 2 good games against similar MAC-style opponents.

These 2 games I think are CRITICAL in finding out who our QB will be and also to see which defensive backs will rise to the top and be our starters. We have had so many guys out for injury that we have played a lot and gotten more guys experience (i.e. Robert Daniel and David Carter who both played well). Hopefully we are healthy with the DB's and these games give enough tape to find out our best secondary in time for MAC competition.

The offense needs a big outing the next two games to get in tune for conference play especially the passing game.

RE: Game Week: @UMass
It will be good to get a win but I am really looking to see if we can put together 4 good quarters and who starts to show separation in the QB room. Neither has been overly impressive and I think by the end of this game we should have a better idea who will be leading us into conference play.

I don't view UMASS and Texas State as cupcakes. We are a .500 team and have been the last few years so let's take the wins whenever and wherever we can.

The line has moved from 17 to 21 after our injury report.

For those looking for an injury update Kyle has it here. No one ruled out but 10 players missed practice today
Quote:No one has officially been ruled out for the Minutemen as of now but when your starting QB, RB, 2 DTs and MLB are among the walking wounded the spread is going to widen

id have to see how long ago this home and home was planned but its hard to project who is a cupcake a few years out.

We have Georgia Southern in 2027 and 2029 - who knows if either of us will be any good by then.

Shoot we host Texas State this season and are AT Texas state in 2025. How many guys on this team will even be hear to make THAT trip?
