Remember, when you pronounce Xavier it is Eggsavier, not Zavier. Their 10,100 fans really love it when you call XU Eggsavier.

UofSC fans like to refer to Clemson fans as Taters. I'm assuming it is because of our agriculture programs and they think we are all farmers. I do have four raised beds in my backyard, so maybe the shoe fits.

Case in point: LSU Tigers vs Auburn Tigers. In the same conference and division. Under my crazy brain, that would be the LSU Bayou Bengals (an unofficial name they're called, so On Topic!) versus the Auburn War Eagles (not something they're called, but what they say).

All I can think of:

Miami has a few. Officially we are just Miami University with no reference to Ohio, though obviously we're called Miami of Ohio most frequently despite being chartered over a century before the U (and well before the city was founded). Nickname wise we go by Hawks mostly, or Skins among older fans who grew up with the Redskins. Derogatory ones include MoO, Fiami, the Foreskins, and J Crew U.

Being from WV, I’ve heard a lot of them.

Marshall:

MooU
Marsha
Blundering Turds

WVU:
Mountain queers
‘Queers
WV Who
‘Eeridiots
USPaM (University of Southern Pennsylvania at Morgantown)

Bonus:
*WVU fans used to call ECU the Butt Pirates back in the 90s.
*Back in the MAC days, we used to hang a giant sheet on the side of our off campus house that said “TUCK FOLEDO” whenever Toledo came to town. Also we called them the Pocket Rockets.

U of I is fairly common among Illinois students/alum. I'm sure Iowa and Idaho people would dispute that of course just like people in Oklahoma and Oregon dispute "OSU" and is UT Texas or Tennessee?

...UAB is of course the Blazers, but sometimes folks call us the Dragons... eh, we'll answer to that, too... Not sure if we have any 'derogatory' names, but I'm sure they are out there (perhaps ask a La. Tech or Memphis fan...)

In case y'all didn't know, the "Blazers" name came from a student "name the team" contest back when the program (b-ball) was created - and the timeframe coincided with the Portland Trailblazers winning the NBA title in '77 - so their nickname became our nickname, but shortened to Blazers...

...as to our 'official' name, it's "University of Alabama at Birmingham", but... it's SO much easier to say "UAB", y'all... 04-rock 03-lmfao

Vanderbilt: ’Dores and Vandy.

I'm not a big fan of either and prefer, if not using Vanderbilt, Commodores and VU.

Obviously, there are LOTS of folks who dislike Vanderbilt but it seems they have struggled to come up with anything clever or effective to rib us with. I've heard "Candy" a few times. Lame. As is "Commode-dores."

Everybody knows about UAB today: the Birmingham location, the solid hoops, Bill Clark, etc. But that was not the case, say, 40 years ago. It took time — but it was successful.

I always thought UAB should, for sports purposes, go by "Birmingham Blazers." That has a strong ring to it.

I'm sure some Tennessee fans are not happy the SEC will soon offer another UT.

My high school sweetheart went to Bama, which is why I broke up with her. The nickname for Tennessee is unofficially, "The Big Orange". Every year when the Vols play the Tide somewhere among the banners back in the late 60's and through the 70's would be one that simply read, "No Fruit Sucks Like The Big Orange!" So somehow having another UT doesn't seem that dire.

I always think of Paul Finebaum when I remember that banner!

Teams Unofficial Nicknames
Let's see: Troy likes calling UAB "UA's B team.". :)

Georgia's unofficial, but most commonly used name is the "Dawgs." We used to waayy before the University of Washington did!! UGa is another one.

I think Tech likes to call us U(sic)Ga or UGag. In return, we call them North Avenue Trade School (located on North Avenue in Atlanta, and we are implying that they are like DeVry Institute or the University of Phoenix) or Georgia Yech. Gnats is another derogatory name for GT.

Oregon has never really had an unofficial nickname unless you want to call U of O that. I think Oregon State fans have called the Ducks, "the Quackers" before.

As for Oregon State, they do have an unofficial nickname, the Beavs.

Troy has always been the Trojans, to the best of my knowledge. Edit: Correction, Troy does have an unofficial nickname: men of Troy!! I remember Troy's radio announcer calling them that. Wouldn't mind see Troy play and beat USC (Trojans vs Trojans).

Montevallo has always been just the Falcons.

...we sometimes wear bball unis with 'BIRMINGHAM' on them... pretty cool... would like to see that in football, too. But it's slowly getting to where UAB is the title, although I still see the random 'Alabama-Birmingham' pop up on TV - not a big deal, but almost confuses the issue at this point.

...and thanks for the props - but even in good times, sometimes it ain't easy being green (especially in Athens, Georgia... 03-drunk )

...yeah, I've heard a lot of 'iterations' of what UAB stands for - The 'over the mountain' crowd (i.e., the rich districts south of town) note that UAB stands for 'U Are Back', as when one of their kids gets kicked out of whatever 'upper crust' out-of-town/state school they were attending, the parents 'relegate' them to UAB... but hey, I'm faring pretty well with my UAB degree... ...and it is a LOT more big time then when I attended... the last $$$ campaign goal a few years back was $500 million, and they far exceeded that... so - not too shabby, I guess... 02-13-banana

And Oregon is my PAC team, so i'm happy they smacked the Buckeyes... and I DO call them the Quackers!!!

I think y'all are missing the most obvious one.

UVA Wahoos or Hoos

They call themselves Wahoos or Hoos as their primary designation in just about every thing.

For those that don't know, their actual mascot name is the Cavaliers.

Yep!! I also would love to see us (Troy) get UAB (y'all) back on the schedule yearly as well!! I'm also glad to see UAB football is back, and in a great stadium too. That should help you a lot as Legion Field was decaying and depressing. Cool on Oregon, btw.
