OT In Person College Football
More and more articles like this are appearing. No I think in person attendance and the season can be moved forward but with some better safeguards.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/colleg...li=BBnb7Kz

At one such game, University of Wisconsin's home opener against Penn State, no vaccination proof or negative test was required. Masks were required indoors but only "strongly encouraged" in outdoor spaces. More than 76,000 people attended. The Madison, Wisconsin, metro area, home to more than 660,000 people has seen a steady increase in cases since mid-July and a positive test rate of 3.4 percent, according to Public Health Madison and Dane County.

These are EMU guidelines as well but no one wore masks to the restrooms and less than 5% wore masks outside.

I can remember what the nuns told her when she was having me, "God helps those who help themselves." (think I was a tough delivery). [no bad jokes, please 03-lmfao ]

Anyway, with the except of those <12, we are pretty close to that 'God helps those who help themselves."

Those who get the vaxx (2 or 3, for those immunocompromised; 1.5M have gotten a 3rd shot), wear masks in high risk situations, etc. are doing well.

Quite frankly, I hardly worry about it. I've had my 2 shots for many months. Will go for my 3rd in say late October. I wear a mask indoors such as the Wizards playoff game where I'm not say 10 or 12 feet from someone else.

Public policy is public policy, but I know and follow the protocols for myself.

My advice for EMU fans attending Saturday's game, wear a (good) mask as you will be literally elbow to elbow with others.

That assumes everyone will act in a responsible manner which they don't. The virus loves the everybody for themselves because it insures it will never be eliminated and can continue to mutate until the vaccine is no longer effective. I wonder what the protocols will be for basketball. Personally I all in for showing proof of vaccination then you don't need the mask rules. It seems silly to me to require EMU students to be tested or show proof of vaccination to enroll and expect their fans to do the same.

I'm not sure i would feel great at a packed stadium - even if its outdoors. Thankfully its not too hard to get some space at Rynearson. I got both shots in April. I think more places should require proof of vax or negative tests.

My philosophy is simple: I act prudently, based on whatever environ I find myself.

As I indicated, if I'm outdoors, I tend not to worry (I'm double-vaxxed). I was at Wolf Trap in NoVa for a concert last month. I wore no mask. Ditto for a Tigers game.

If I am indoors and within 12 feet of others I mask. E,g., Wizards playoff game.

To me, the protocols are almost an academic issue as I understand the risk and mitigate accordingly.

If someone 50 feet away isn't vaxxed or masked and shouting like crazy ("EMU TOUCHDOWN, EMU TOUCHDOWN, EMU TOUCHDOWN") I'm not going to worry as I've already understand and prepared for the environment.

In summary, unless someone is <12, it is still "God helps those who help themselves." Most of those who died or are severely ill never got the message. 03-idea

True, and none of us can play God and get them to listen...

My point is that I will do what I need to do to protect myself. That's all I can do.

This is for '79. It is from an English study. Here is the startling statement from the summary:

"Based on antibody testing of blood donors, 97.7% of the adult population now have
antibodies to COVID-19 from either infection or vaccination compared to 18.1% that
have antibodies from infection alone. Over 95% of adults aged 17 or older have
antibodies from either infection or vaccination. "

Bottom line: Unless someone is living in a cave, they will most likely have contact with Covid. Will they be vaccinated? One shot? Two shots? Will they be asymptomatic? Etc. etc.

This 97.7% number with antibodies, as determined by blood testing of those donating blood is incredible. Only 64.6% of English adults have had at least one shot. An awful lot of post infection antibodies.

But if we may have the natural immunity from the original variant if we are not vaccinated that does mean we have natural immunity (which wanes in time) from the Delta variant which is spreading through the entire unvaccinated population like wild fire. If we had reached herd immunity through vaccination or having caught and recovered from the original Covid strain that would not be the case.

I think I follow you.

What I would have suggested, and I heard some epidemiologists agree, we would have done better to take the first 100 - 150M doses and give one to everyone (except 2 doses to medical professionals, those 75+, and a few more) and try to kill the spread in the U.S. by getting PARTIAL immunity (say 80 - 90% effectiveness from the first dose) and then come back say 6 - 8 weeks with the 2nd shot.

Fauci and other felt. Follow the experimental conditions to the letter. If it was 21 days between doses for Pfizer, it shouldn't be 42 days.

I would liked to have seen at least one shot per household. Try "Stop the Spread" within a household between spouses or parents and children. like with the Trumps: Donald, Melania, Barron, etc.

RE: OT In Person College Football
Yesterday President Biden "encouraged" sporting events and live concerts to require proof of vaccination before being allowed to attend an event. Indeed, the LSU Tigers already have that requirement for football games and some bands like Dead & Company require proof or they will not play that venue. I'm going to be interested in seeing how the major sports leagues and the NCAA and individual conferences and schools including EMU respond to that request. I have no problem with that requirement especially with indoor events. Its much easier to enforce that a mask mandate. I'm also interested in how our Governor will respond to the employer mandate in terms of compliance. My thinking is that I think the President will only encourage at this point in time and see if any progress is made and then re-assess the situation.

What's the purpose of this thread?

If you (we) go to a sporting event follow the minimum requirements and 'go higher' if you (we) wish.

If I were at an EMU home FB game, I'd probably already be social distanced.

If I were to go to the WI game tomorrow, I'd expect to have others breathing all over me. I would mitigate accordingly.

The rest is essentially O/T to college football. I'm not sure what the office, church, etc. would have to do with CFB or say MBB, the two primary topics of this forum.

I'm not sure I would attend an EMU basketball game - even with a mask mandate - under current circumstances.

Hey Steve where do you see church or office even mentioned? . Geez the entire thread deals with the sports world. Geez try reading and not projecting.

Hey Steve where do you see church or office even mentioned? . Geez the entire thread deals with the sports world. Geez try reading and not projecting.

I extrapolated this statement.

"I'm also interested in how our Governor will respond to the employer mandate in terms of compliance. My thinking is that I think the President will only encourage at this point in time and see if any progress is made and then re-assess the situation."

It seems to have more to do with 'the office', church, etc. than sports. I watched Biden and he said nothing about sports.

Where Biden has much power is using DOL/OSHA and compel employers with 100+ employees to enforce a vaccine mandate. I probably shouldn't have added 'church' or other activities which may entail large groupings on people, but not in an employment situation.

That said, we are off on a tangent as Biden's statement was mostly about employers and employees and I doubt we are discussing faculty members, etc. And student athletes aren't employees.

I'm going to pivot the discussion.

There are now a growing number of articles, etc. by epidemiologists, etc. suggesting that each Covid wave lasts about 2 months before starting to recede (like an ocean wave recedes).

A number of writers, etc. think that our current wave (#4) will soon begin to wane, IF it hasn't already.

I think Delta will look much, much different come basketball season. I'm not pessimistic for indoor sports such as basketball, hockey, etc.

Here in S Fl, it is reported that hospitalizations are down by 30 % over the last 10 days.

That 30% drop is great news for lots of people. Unfortunately, Florida is still a disaster of suffering. The number of hospitalized this week is about 6x higher than this time last year.
