Wait a minute, before they apply for the Big 12, don't they need to officially notify their old conference first they are withdrawing.

If that is the case the 3 schools leaving the AAC must have notified the AAC what date they are leaving, right? How come we have not heard about any official withdrawal notice?

They need to be officially accepted first.

Making the move is absolutely a no-brainer. You’d have to be crazy not to do it. Even if the Big XII is bringing up the rear among the P5.

No - a school won’t withdraw from the old conference until they’re officially accepted by the new conference. Otherwise, the school risks being in purgatory in the event that the new conference doesn’t accept their application (however unlikely that might be).
