Dred Scott
You've got to hand it to the "original intent" conservatives to bless us with the worst judicial acts in history. This Supreme Court has gone full-on Dred Scott with their recent refusal to strike down the new TX abortion law.

Just like Dred Scott effectively defied decades of precedent in setting up a system where bounty hunters can hunt down blacks for being slaves regardless of whether they were given freedom in a free state or not, so does this new action by the court defy decades of precedent to set up a bounty system for anyone who defies the new abortion law. But in this case it's even worse because there's been well over a century of precedent against this kind of vigilante justice by the court.

Only 7 years after they effectively legalized abortion, Republicans made a deal with the devil back in 1980 when they added pro-life support to their platform in a desperate attempt to get voters after the Nixon fiasco. But the devil is always in the details. And now it's time to pay the piper, just like it was back when Dred Scott was handed down.

You just knew it was going to be something incredibly stupid the moment you saw scorpius was the poster.

Yes, in his sick & twisted world view stopping the unnecessary slaughter of tens of thousands of black babies is now akin to Dred Scott.

I can't wait to see some of you people stand before your creator on judgment day.

Hard to argue with the point….that’s cute.

Limited doubt I’ve been more kind than most believers. I’ll happily stand there. Will you?

RE: Dred Scott
This abortion issue says more about a person than almost any other when they make sick and twisted comments like the OP did.

95% of abortions are totally unnecessary and done solely because the child is an inconvenience to the mother. So she has her child murdered to unburden herself.

Ideally, the overturning of Roe will lead to either a quick technological solution or something else that all but eliminates demand for abortion in society in the near term. But sadly, I don't see that as likely happening. And we have all of human history to know it's unlikely demand will go away no matter how much a ban is forced upon society. That's just the reality of the situation.

Liberals act like you slip on a banana peel and get pregnant. It IS possible to avoid it.

If you don't want to be pregnant, nobody is forcing you. Be freaking responsible before it happens.

But I understand that telling a liberal to be responsible is like telling a goat to play a piano.

I get that the person who started this thread is here for the trolling and not for the enlightenment. But still, that OP is one of the most genuinely weird/false/ahistorical comments I’ve seen in a long time.

Virtually every word/phrase in the OP contains an assertion or implication that is somewhere between a lie and a fantasy. But life is short and I’m not going to unpack each one of them.

Even so, it’s worth pointing out that both Scott v Sandford and Roe v Wade were acts of judicial aggression by SCOTUS, striking down state and federal laws that offended individual SCOTUS members. The Court’s recent decision to let the new Texas law work its way through the process of trial court analysis and appellate review is, by contrast, an act of judicial restraint.

And if SCOTUS should now change or repudiate 48 years of precedent relating to Roe v Wade and it’s judicial progeny… well, Roe v Wade repudiated judicial precedents going back to the Colonial times in one fell swoop. Roe’s proponents didn’t care about “decades of precedent” in 1973, and they don’t care about it now.

RE: Dred Scott
Two of the biggest goofball morons ever to frequent the board make goofball moronic statements. In other news the sky is blue.

In most dictatorships - you know, like the one they thought we were living in under Trump - they'd have already been lined up at the edge of a pit with the rest of the goofballs and shot.

Anyway, it's all cover for their drooler in chief. They will say or do anything to try to avoid acknowledging they've been had.

You are dead-on correct, TB4E. This is now, and will be for the coming months, the clarion call for the entire progressive cabal: the media, big tech and the Democrat party.

Even they are shocked by the catastrophic across-the-board messes befalling our nation. They know that they are responsible for every one of these messes, and are desperate for any means to escape accountability.

What they need, more than anything else, is for someone (or something) to come roaring in loudly, make over-the-top statements that are only distantly connected to the real issues at hand, and thereby give the compliant media more fuel for the never-ending gaslighting of the American populace.

Paging Donald Trump ….

It’s probably worth pointing out that they did not analyze the constitutionality of the law and did not issue an opinion on the constitutionality of the law.

It wasn't a decision to let the new law work it's way through the process of trial court analysis and appellate review. That was going to happen REGARDLESS. The decision was to overturn decades of precedent WHILE this process took place. That is NOT judicial restraint.

Fact of the matter is, Dred Scott was decided based on "original intent" arguments rather than CURRENT intent. It's a failed judicial philosophy that was a major contributor to the Civil War due to that decision. So much so it died out as a judicial philosophy until the late 1970's and 1980's. I guess some people just do not learn from history.. or rather just ignore it.
