In Depth Info On Potential AAC Candidates.....
All of these figures will be averages since 2014 which is the first year under the current re-alignment (minus the 2020 season due to COVID).

I see fans from multiple schools trying to use one year (if it benefits them or diminishes another). We can't look at just one single year to get a full picture so that is why I have compiled all of this data from 2014-2019 (Includes the 2019 season). So I decided to take the time and figure up the averages for each school over this time period. Averages are a lot better measuring stick as it's over a longer period of time.

Average Football Attendance

Marshall- 24,590
So Miss- 24,566
UAB- 24,196 (Only four seasons as they shut their program down for two years)

Enough about overall athletic budgets. Let's look at the budgets for football and men's basketball since those are honestly the only two sports that matter. How much a team spends on soccer is irrelevant and I say that as a Marshall fan who just won the NCAA National Championship in soccer.

Total athletic budgets would be a good number to see as well. The Buffalo attendance is actually better than I expected given all the mid-week games.

Updated it with info I found in another post that has winning percentage over the last 8 years for football and basketball. I will also update at some point to include athletic budgets like you requested as well as the final NET rankings for each year. Basketball records can be inflated much easier than football. In football you plat at most one FCS school per year. In basketball some teams can play multiple D2 teams per year to boost their wins. NET will probably be a better indicator for basketball.

Are those the 15 that the AAC is considering or just the 15 you think they should consider?

Just the 15 I have seen people mention the most. If someone wants to compile the data for their school I will include it. I don’t have the time to compile data for every single team so I chose the teams that other people seem to mention the most.

Thank you. I just updated the list to include that as well as total weeks ranked in FBS Top 25. If I get time to do basketball Top 25 I will.

Not going to lie, when you start looking at support for both football & basketball, as well as just general support, Old Dominion looks much better to me.

You guys are one of the reasons I chose to do this as I knew your basketball attendance historically was better than it looked in comparison to others.

Thanks! We suffer from the same thing others have mentioned, lack of general awareness. I've heard the story told about how we got invited to CUSA and it was kind of by accident and someone sent Judy to visit but we weren't on the radar or looking to make any moves, and she called back to head office and said "uhh, invite them." Which was a no brainer decision with VCU and Mason out the door. Ready or not you take that invite.

Basketball is in serious need of a NCAA win but I think we hang on to Jeff Jones unless he produces another 15-18 win season. Then I think he'll be on the hot seat. Many fans think his seats been plenty of hot, but we'll save that drama for our board and the numerous "Fire ___"threads. =]

I would absolutely hate to lose Marshall as a conference mate in all of this madness. We joined with ECU and Marshall and I was stoked at that combo, then they were gone before we could get in the door. Then 6 years later Marshall leaves and fans on here think ODU is vocal about the conference now? Sheesh.

04-cheers

I see fans from multiple schools trying to use one year (if it benefits them or diminishes another). We can't look at just one single year to get a full picture so that is why I have compiled all of this data from 2014-2019 (Includes the 2019 season). So I decided to take the time and figure up the averages for each school over this time period. Averages are a lot better measuring stick as it's over a longer period of time.

If I get the time I will look up weeks ranked, how many times finished the season ranked, highest rank, winning percentage etc. Not sure when I will have this much time again, but this is how I spent my Labor Day lol

WKU will not be looked at, however we would be towards the top in bball attendance, bball winning % (62%), football winning % (60%) and we've been ranked in football in that time frame as well. However we'd be towards the bottom for football attendance. 03-banghead Being a bball school in a bball state doesn't help with that.

If it helps...IMO, WKU is the most undervalued athletic program out there. I have no issues sharing a conference with WKU or ODU.

RE: In Depth Info On Potential AAC Candidates.....
So you choose three years as some arbitrary number to fit your agenda? Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. Trust me, I wanted to include 2013 for Marshall but I didn't because re-alignment didn't finalize until 2014. In 2013 we still had ECU and Tulsa in CUSA and WKU was still in the Sun Belt.

I chose to use the data since the last round of re-alignment which is by far the most fair way to do it. Plus it shows things on a much bigger historical scale. Nice try though.

For things like ranking and winning %, roughly 20 years would be more important. 6 years is not enough for a trend, although it would be relevant for many of your other factors.

3, 6, 10, 20, 50 years - its all arbitrary. Realignment never "finalized" but it did stall once the CFP began which is how I interpreted your post. It seems you've picked an historical stake in the ground which appears more objective. I do the same thing - I look at success in eras (Pre-AP Poll, AP Poll - I-A/I-AA split, AP Poll - pre-BCS, Championship - BCS/CFP).

That being said, and to the content of the discussion, Marshall should be on the shortlist of AAC candidates. I would have the AAC get back to 12 with Marshall, Rice, Southern Miss, and UAB.

I'm perfectly fine with that. I'm sure it would only help Marshall more. I'm not taking the time to do all of that that. I figured 2014 goes back far enough to get a good gauge, and is when the last round of re-alignment took place. I didn't just choose that number randomly. For instance, Marshall won 10 games in 2013, but I didn't go back to 2013 because re-alignment wasn't finished until 2014.
