I know J St gave the Fire Breathing Dragons everything they could handle.
I have no clue who North American is or where so I am going to go with Lamar
SHSU over NAU
Tarleton over SFA 'cuz my heart sez so. (Toss up game)
SMU over ACU and not to be cruel, but convincingly
Sac over Dixie or Utah Tech or whatever the hell they are called...but a good game
EKU and WCU I have absolutely no clue..I am not use to following FCS so many of the teams I do not have a clue about.
Cen Ark over Ark St because I know ARK St is pretty down this year and I know Cen Ark is a top team in the FCS.

RE: AQ7 Week One
If Tarleton beats SFA (again), one could likely argue that after the initial contest that SFA is not ready for prime time just yet. The Jacks are conceivably the second best team in WAC on paper heading into the year but Todd Whitten always gives them trouble even when Sam was down during his tenure in Huntsville. While the Sam game is always a big one, this one may be biggest of year for Jacks as they can shake their demons, get the 1-0 start they need

RE: AQ7 Week One
Like I said on the Sawmill, IMO if SFA loses this game, the program has taken a step back.

* QB now in his 3rd year in the system.
* 3 RBs who can start
* 1 WR 2X All American and 3 FBS transfer WRs who can start
* OL that is all back with two all conference players

* Defensive line that is all back with a freshman All-American and preseason all WAC player
* All conference and DPOY linebacker
* A secondary with tons of depth and multiple players with 3 or more INTS to their name

If this ain't primed to make noise now, I don't know what is?

Tarleton State is a good football team, with lots of big physical players, but I expect at home to win with what SFA has on their roster.

My upset picks are NAU over SHSU and Dixie State of Sac.

If Dixie State beats Sacramento State, it will be a reason for celebration of WAC fans. That would be a nice feather in the cap of a transitioning program...

Sam Houston needs to beat Northern Arizona; I don't mind if the game is close with the 'target' on the Kats back, being on the road and being at altitude as long as Sam stays healthy. The key this year is health!

Now we are learning officially that North American U was an exhibition game for the Cardinals

The WAC needs to get into its bylaws that exhibition games are not permissible during the fall competitive season. WAC schools should not be allowed to play a non-countable opponent during the regular season.

North American U plays Texas Southern later this year too

NAU-SHSU thoughts:

SHSU has a lot of speed on offense.
SHSU's D needs work.

Main difference in game was that SHSU hit more of their long passes, where as NAU's QB overthrew wide-open receivers regularly.

SHSU doesn't travel well - 20-30 SHSU fans (a number confirmed with a SHSU fan also there.

SHSU had a lot of pressure on the running game - NAU averaged under 3 yards per carry. The pass defense seemed to struggle to get in a groove. Good pressure on NAU's QB because they were getting into the backfield but the secondary didn't have their best game.

Watching the game, I felt SHSU was getting some decent yardage on screen passes and getting some good blocks upfield. SHSU had 189 of its 268 receiving yards after catch so that makes sense to me. Kats running game was definitely on point.

Yes - Run D was good - secondary would have been torched by a good QB.

That is the speed I am talking about - once Sam had an opening, they were gone.

West Texas A&M beat North American in the spring 56-0. WTAM is an average D2 program.

North American was playing their third game of the fall against an opponent. Hope it will improve soon, but Lamar has done a poor job of scheduling in both football and men's basketball for years. Either want to always be on the plus side of home versus away games or are unwilling or can't find FCS schools willing to come to Beaumont. Hoping that will change soon.

I think there is bad blood from the what happened a couple of years ago before the game that was never played. Tarleton will be up for this one. Depending on how Whitten manages or mismanages the game will determine the outcome. Tarleton is loaded talent wise.

South Dakota State was very impressive, trouncing Colorado State. Sam will likely remain number one in this week’s poll but SDSU isn’t far behind.

SFA wins 20-10.

Tarleton won the first half and SFA won the second. Very sloppy for both offenses.

Was disappointed with the SFA crowd. I thought it was a little light.

In year 2 of the transition, we can physically play at this level.

Go Texans!!!!!

Congrats to SFA on the win. Unfortunately ESPN+ would not let me watch saying technical difficulties..did anyone else experience that? Anyway, I know this year is probably going to be tough for the Texans, and probably the next few before we can get a lot more D1 talent on the team.
