RE: Game Week: St. Francis (pa.)
Game week post...a sight for sore eyes! I was actually trying to remember what day game notes typically come out on a normal week (ie a Saturday game)? Is it Monday? If so I wonder if they'd come out today since today is "Monday" in terms of a game week timeline. It'll be interesting to see how much the depth chart changes from the one via the media guide last month.

You are correct on Monday releases before Saturday games, however, we've had season opening Friday games before and game notes came out on Monday.

Dear Friends,
Checking the website of Saint Francis, they have a few linemen in the 300 lb. range, but many are in the 260 to 270 lb. range. An interview with two of their players said they were faster overall, and worked on the weights during the Covid season.
Now, my point is will we be able to push them around? My fear is Eastern will be over confident.

Overconfidence is my concern as well. I've got a feeling Creighton will draw from the Central Connecticut experience and have the boys ready to play. Would really like to see a nice thumping in the opener with a lot of backups getting an opportunity for playing time. Also want to see Bryant play.

Based on what I'm hearing, I don't think overconfidence will be too much of a factor. St. Francis hasn't played since 2019 and has had significant turnovers in coaching staff and players.

EMU has no real pertinent film to study and little sense of coaching tendencies. There is a concern that St. Francis is a real unknown, so the guys are working hard on basics, and will be counting on the coaches and upperclassmen experience to make adjustments as they see how things develop during the game. I don't think anyone is taking this game for granted.

Ultimately I think the Eagles will win because they have the solid experience as a team that St. Francis is lacking now. In some ways, St. Francis is similar to a first-year program about to play their first game. They don't know what to expect of themselves in a game environment.

That is one of the reasons I want to see the updated depth chart. I THINK Hutchinson will start but I'm not convinced it won't be Bryant.

RE: Game Week: St. Francis (pa.)
Pumped for game week and wish I could go.....

Top 5 things I'm looking for.....
1. Obvious.....QB Battle. I assume Hutch gets the nod and I hope he does, but Bryant will likely get reps and I'm curious to see how he does.

2. Offensive Line. I think this is our deepest position. We need to get a run game going and I am hopeful that if some of the vets cant get holes opened, than some of our very talented younger guys get some early action to prove their worth.

3. Defense. Our defense last year gave up 36 points a game. and 243 yards a game. That is REALLY bad and while we can't be that bad in 2021, if we are even close to that, we will be putting insane pressure on our offense to score 49 a game to get to an 8 win season that I think should be the expectation. Our biggest need that was not addressed was not finding a 'bendy' defensive end that can get pressure on the QB. We gave up 22 pts per game in '18, 30 pts per game in '19 and 36 in '20. We need to reverse this trend. (very excited to see if Swindle plays the entire season given his talent and our need for a DL)

4. NFL??? Do we have NFL Talent on this team? I keep seeing that we have several NFL teams coming to see the guys practice. My bet would be Odukoya, Julien, Rush or Sow. Anyone else I'm missing?

5. Development of RB. Excited to see Boone continue to develop with a full season. Evans, Bess Jawon? McCarty maybe get some reps? Evans as well. Deep group and I'm looking to see how these guys develop.

Very well thought out, and detailed observation! The DL and LB need to turn the corner! The offense can't be expected to score 35 plus points every game! I think with this schedule, and I believe 6 home games? 8-4 needs to be the expectation! I'm curious what most people think realistically our record will be?? I'm saying 7-5 at worst...........A bowl game as well!

#5-running backs need to hold on to the ball. When Boone was out we had a problem with fumbles.
#3-tackle too many missed tackles last year.

The secondary got alot of heat last year but was really banged up with injuries part of that was also a lack of a consistent pass rush. Another problem on defense was stopping the run. We look like we have a full compliment of DTs this year to rotate. Manor will be the key guy to watch for me.

NFL-hm I might add Myrick.

Want to see how the transfers on DB and WR do, how is our depth past the first 3 WRs?

Greg Steiner says we'll get the game notes this afternoon. Presumably there will be an updated depth chart.

RE: Game Week: St. Francis (pa.)
Did a little bit of research on St. Francis. They didn't play in 2020, and were 6-6 in 2019. SFU is projected 5th of 7 full members in the NEC, but the two teams below them include LIU (which has only had a program since 2019) and Wagner (who went 1-11 in 2019).

On offense they lost their starting QB, top rusher, and top 2 receivers. SFU's top tackler on defense also is gone. On special teams they'll be breaking in a new punter. The have one preseason all-conference player: James Watkins, DL.

VERY pass-heavy offense in 2019. Averaged 261 passing yards per game vs. 100 rushing yards per game. But that was with their previous starting QB, top WR, and a different roster. We'll have to see what their offense looks like this year.

We lifted one of their Tackles too: https://emueagles.com/sports/football/ro...wrot/13755

Wonder if the coaches picked him brain.

We should have a contest to guess when the game notes are released.

As many years as I can remember usually around 4 p.m. game week Monday (this is for the season opening game).

Game notes are out. The depth chart at WR and DB are the biggest surprises because with the except of Stewart there are no P5 transfers starting. Summers starting is a surprise at WR.

Agree. It might change next week. First depth charts aren't entirely forward looking.

Very true, and similar to last year, what role is COVID playing? For example, Knue is not listed on the two-deep, was he just beat out for his spot or is he not eligible to play this week?

An injury will also keep a guy off the depth chart. Could be that's what happened with Knue.
