I know nothing about their QB but you’re not going to convince me not having a real off-season didn’t effect younger players more than older players.

The RB and legs of the QB are scary good. The QB was a true freshman last year with no coaching who’s going to take a huge step forward this year, much like half our team.

If we are competitive vs GT I’ll feel great about our chances of beating Wyoming and going to a bowl. I feel like we’re going to be ready vs Wyoming forcing them to play an early game and hopefully a fired up crowd.

Big Redd, my favorite BB poster. Please don't take any offense as I also saw this on the GT board and I believe you just copied it here. My reply is directed at the implied improvement an un-coached QB will be making.

I read this on the GT board and really can't believe it or understand what it means. I'm calling full BS.

Do you mean to tell me he was a walk on that joined the team on the Friday before the first game? And, with no coaching or practice he then jumped in front of all the other QBs on the roster? Did he miss all the practices due to COVID-19 or something else?

This statement therefore implies that during the entire year the QB was never coached.

Do we have players on our team (or any real college football team) that experienced no coaching? Don't our 3rd, 4th . . . 7th and beyond string players receive and benefit from coaching? Scout teams get coaching.

This is either not true or the GT program has very serious concerns that should be fully exploited. Who else on their team had no coaching so we can take advantage? If their players are not receiving coaching, how did the coaches not get fired? How did the coaches know this player was any good without coaching or evaluating him? Did they see him playing on the dorm team and say wow, this guy is better than every QB on the team, how would you like to be the starting QB?

So, the conclusion is since he was not coached since he arrived at the program and is now receiving coaching beginning this year, he will definitely be so much better???
Ha! Love the BS call, that's great. My point was only meant to say a true freshman starting during a messed up Covid season as a QB is certainly going to have a bigger ramp than normal.
Last, sadly I am not your favorite poster. While I've been active for about a decade posting you're talking about the bball BigRed (one R) I'm sure. Just don't want to make him look bad 03-wink

Like I said, I agree. Our host of true freshman playing will benefit as well.

But like I said, I would have liked to have seen the younger player, Jeff Sims, get better. He didn't. An offseason should help everyone, but I am not sure he's going to become drew brees. He's a runner with a wild cannon. That's what he is, not saying he can't play winning football, but the spread they ran last season that required him to be more accurate is not the way to win with him.

The spread/run is the way to go. And of course coaches get a pass too, they only had him on campus 3 months, with 1 month of practice, to determine what type of player he was. No way near enough time to set the offense for his strengths.

ESPN included NIU in there season opening bottom 10:

7. Boiling Green in Northern Illinois by way of Akron (2020: 0-5/0-6/1-5)

Speaking of Terry Bowden, the place where he was most recently a head coach, Akron, leads a three-headed MACtion monster that combined to win one game in 2020, and that lone victory was by the Zips over Boiling Green. This season this trio will participate in an October semi-round-robin tournament of pain, when Akron travels to Bowling Green Week 5, followed by a Bowling Green trip to Northern Illinois seven days later. Sources tell the Bottom 10 JortsCenter news desk that the MAC has already licensed "Yakety Sax" to be played nonstop over the public address system during both games.
