Not a termination but interesting speculation about Scott Frost at Nebraska...oh and Nebraska being investigated...

I'm not sure I saw Frost's struggles coming once he became coach at his alma mater. Nebraska coaching records since Tom Osborne stepped aside...

Solich 58-19 [.753]
Pelini 67-27 [.713]
Callahan 27-22 [.551]
Riley 19-19 [.500]
Frost 12-20 [.375]

FWIW, Frosty is the only one with zero bowl appearances.

Nebraska's loss was OU's gain. Solich's only problem was he was not Osborne. It has been down hill with each new victim. Nebraska will never be mighty again. There is no in state recruiting base and who wants to go to Lincoln?

This is why Fickell should stay with us.

Why go to a P5 punching bag and become the next Scott Frost.

We're past that stage of hiring cycle for Fickell by now...he's only going to the big boys.

Yep. I can’t see him leaving for anything less than OSU or ND right now. Think about how different our hiring cycle is as well.

Nebraska will not be Nebraska again. Some of the reasons why:

- Proposition 48
-They were cutting edge in S&C back in the 80s and 90s. Most schools emphasize this now.
-Evolution of the game. Nebraska excelled with that Power I. That’s just not how it’s done anymore.
—Lincoln, NE is just not as attractive for today’s recruits (with little home grown talent they rely on them coming in from TX, Cali, Florida and Georgia)

I totally agree on OSU and ND only. PSU would not be acceptable to Amy for 10 or more years because of lack of Catholic Schools in College Station.

Wait! Is Doss Amy Fickell? It's all becoming clearer!

Kidding aside, I'm not worried about something I don't have control over (I can't pay for facilities or a conference move myself). I'm going to enjoy this team and let the chips fall where they may. I'm also not worried about Fickell eaving for a low-mod tier "P" job either. I have no clue whether it would only be ND or OSU who could pull him away from here but I'm not concerning myself with that. He seems happy here.

As Bearcat fans we've learned to never say never about coaches leaving. Alternately, we've never had anyone quite like Fickell before.

With deep Ohio roots; highly compensated (that affords a super premium lifestyle for Luke and his family in Cincy), and from all appearances, taking full advantage of all the benefits of life in this most livable metro, he may be here to stay for quite a while. A conference upgrade may further assure his longevity.

Regardless, I intend to enjoy the ride this season, even though we all know each telecast will feature discussions of where Luke is leaving for in the P5.

It has far more to do with this than anything else. Nebraska excelled because their misdirection rush offense relies more on the scheme than the players in it (which is why Nebraska never really produced much NFL talent when they were big boys). Their big disadvantage has always been that no one really wants to go to Nebraska for four years, so they took the personnel they could get, and did everything possible to make it impossible to defend them by way of their offensive trickery (ie. why Navy is still successful most years).

Also, they partially won because they had a tradition of absolutely brutal practices. They'd have 5-6 full squads of backups who would GO AFTER the starters on every single snap.

In 1995, Nebraska had 179 players on their roster. 106 were from the state of Nebraska. By 2005 they abandoned this strategy and were down to 114 players.

Frost has tried to resurrect this strategy - he has 154 players on the roster this year. No idea why it's not working for him.

RE: 2021 CFB Coaching Carousel
Surprise, surprise...

Quote:UConn coach Randy Edsall will retire following the 2021 season. The school announced his decision Sunday.

"After 17 years of service at the University of Connecticut as its head football coach, I've decided to retire at the end of the season," Edsall said in the official release from the school. "Back in 2017 I made a commitment to the University, but felt it was better to make this announcement now rather than the end of the year, to allow the University ample time to prepare for the future of the football program. All my focus and attention for the rest of the season will be to prepare our players and coaches to go out and win as many games as possible."

The announcement comes a day after the Huskies lost to 38-28 to Holy Cross, an FCS team from the Patriot League. The loss dropped the Huskies to 0-2 on the season and 6-32 since Edsall returned to Storrs, Connecticut, for his second stint with the program. This period with him leading UConn that has not gone nearly as well as the first run with the program.

i was going to say that it seems like a heart and not head type job. Something for an alum or a nostalgia hire for a former staffer. That said, i don't know if there are any notable uconn alums that are in the coaching ranks.

Chris Vanini at the Athletic listed Holy Cross’s HC, Al Golden and UComm alum/TV commentator Dan Orlovsky as possible candidates.

I've got to believe that Golden has better prospects than Uconn. Heck, if he wants it, I think Temple would move heaven and earth to get him back there.

Orlovski... Meh... Does he even have any coaching experience?

I had forgotten that Al Golden is coaching the Linebackers with the Bengals. I do agree if he wanted to get back in the HC game he could have better options.

I listened (online) to the WVU talk show this evening...wanted to see if there was any B12 news/rumors/reactions... Neal Brown's seat at WVU is getting warm over in Morgantown. The natives are restless and the war-drums are starting to beat.
