OT: Crypto Currency
Mods feel free to move this if need be. I couldn’t find anywhere on this board where this might go....

Who else is investing in crypto. Would love to meet some fellow CUSA fans (or anyone else) who are investing in crypto. What are you currently investing in. What’s the future looking like? How long will this bull run last?

I have no interest in crypto. I feel you are being had. Like the people investing in Tesla...all hype my friend.

It’s ok if you think that. I used to think that too... because I didn’t understand what it truly was.

I would encourage you to stop thinking of it as a digital currency (although that’s what Bitcoin is), and start looking in to the actual blockchain technology. Ford, BMW, Warren Buffett, etc... they wouldn’t be investing a LOT of money in to this blockchain technology if it didn’t at least have potential.

Crypto only holds a value based on someone else believing crypto has value.

It holds no tangible value aside from dark web dwellers. Its uber risky. No thank you.

The dollar may continue to devalue, however it at least has a national standard. OG crypto will ultimately fail because it has no unifying nation standard. It only has value as an entity because it cannot become replicated. Its going to continue losing value because it is no longer accurately true to say it is an untraceable commodity.

It was never made to be “untraceable” the exact opposite actually lol

It’s ok if you don’t understand it and have no desire to understand it. I’m not trying to talk anyone into it. I’m just trying to connect with others who invest in it and happen to frequent this board.

Since we got off the gold standard in the 1970's---that would be no different from the dollar. Today, the dollar is a fiat currency. It is not backed by any commodity like gold. The dollar has value because our government says it does---but its just paper---and we devalue it daily by printing more and more of it. There may be good arguments against the long term future of cryptocurrency---but the "it has no real value" is a fairly ineffective argument when we live in an economy based on a fiat currency.

If I were going to argue why its future use is limited---my argument would be it lacks stability as a repository for wealth. You cant run a bussiness where you accept cyrpto currency as payment because the currency might lose 20% of its value in a week. A useful currency has to be more stable than that. Right now---cryto currency is more speculation than investing. I own some---but its high risk money that Im basically speculating/gambling with.

You are wrong. I do understand it. After coming to a complete understanding of it and it's value, I have come to the conclusion my money will be wisely invested elsewhere.

Take your one crypto, and you will find it very difficult to make purchases like conventional currency.

We all know the dollar left the gold standard a long time ago. Separate discussion point altogether I believe. However, even with the dollar leaving the gold standard, I can easily buy a house tomorrow with cash. Good luck doing so with your crypto.

I bet you were one of the last and final customers of blockbuster lol

Let me know when you can buy a house with your stocks.

Also for the record, I can use a Visa card to spend my crypto so you are once again wrong. Seriously though, it’s ok man. No one is here trying to force you to invest in it.

I bought a little ADA and RavenCoin to play. I'm more interested in seeing where blockchain takes us than investing in crypto.

Pretty interesting to see where it might impacts our day to day lives.

I recommend a podcast called exponential view on hbr. He recently had the ceo of visa on and discussed their view of crypto.

Nothing I said is inaccurate or boomerish. It's based on fact.

I'm open to hearing both sides, but you would be foolish to discredit my claims completely. The crypto world is highly volatile.

Awesome. I’m pretty big on ADA too. It’s on a major bull run right now at least until Sept 12th so get in now if you want to make some money. XRP is another. It will really explode mid September or so IF the court stuff goes their way, so they are more of a gamble than ADA.

Yes, VISA and a lot of the other traditional whales are starting to get involved.

If you want a cheap one that I think will really explode in a few years, check out VeChain. Ford and BMW are both involved with it right now. BMW is going to use the VeChain technology to prevent odometer manipulation among other things.

There’s another we can’t buy in the US that I know of but all the major car manufacturers are working together on it to basically keep track of car ownership. No more paper title to worry about losing etc. VID by the MOBI group.

I’m with you. I can’t wait to see how much this technology changes our lives over the next decade.

RE: OT: Crypto Currency
Riley, I never said it wasn’t volatile. It is 100% volatile, but that’s why there is so much money to be made, that’s why you should only invest what you can afford to lose (like pretty much all investments really), and that’s also why I only invest in crypto (block chains) that actually serve a purpose.

The people investing in Doge and some of the other pointless coins will most likely lose their money. Investing in actual technology that will change our every day lives has a much better chance to explode in value (it will just be over the next 3-5 years as opposed to 3-5 days/weeks)

XRP is a blockchain technology that is going to change the way banks transfer money around the world. Right now over $5 trillion per day is transferred from one country to another. It takes 3-5 days, isn’t secure, and not always reliable. This technology will transfer the money in 3-5 seconds, secured, traceable, and much cheaper. Those are the types of coins I’m excited about.

Nice. I wish I would have bought Ethereum a few years ago. Are you concerned it might drop in value if ADA explodes? That’s the main thing keeping me from buying any of it right now.

I invest in VGX. The native token of Voyager. I believe in the company and leadership. Voyager is a public company. I invest in the stock as well. It will eventually be on the Nasdaq exchange.I invest in people. Steve the CEO built ETrade from the ground up. The token has a loyalty program starting in September. I’m making 7% APR every day and my target price for the token is $20 by end of year. Currently it’s around $4.

I have less than 1% of my overall portfolio in VGX. It’s fun. I love the volatility and there is a great community that rallies around the token. It’s not going to break me if it goes to 0.

Nice! I'm on the 757CIO forum and we had a handful of colleges and university deans or admins come to talk to us. They wanted to know was what they need to add or remove from curriculums regarding tech talent in our region. Block chain came up and one college was already providing a qr code to graduates with their diploma. So they can include it on resumes for HR depts to quickly do credential validation.
