Fair takes by Brant. My only complaint is no ECU, but it takes two to tango. ECU and other D-I NC teams just don’t seem to treat it as a necessity to schedule us or other mid-major D-I NC programs.

It’s a shame but I’m not sure how to fix it other than the neutral site NC tournament idea, which is a terrific one but clearly hard to execute.

Appreciate the reads, as always.

Without knowing the details, I’d have to believe the scheduling trouble is from the other side.

From the ECU perspective, they’ve got much more to lose by playing us. It’s not a great look for a program trying to raise its profile in a “Power 6” conference to consistently struggle vs. a program in the conference it left behind.

They’ve tried to recruit more nationally, but we’ve gone after some of the same in-state kids, and UNCW can certainly point to the fact that we own the all-time series.

That's the vibe I get too. They are likely under a lot of pressure to "up" their basketball scheduling and if we are struggling, doing a regular home and home with us may be a tough sell, despite it being logical and financially sensical.

An early season 8 team MTE tournament with all NC schools makes so much sense.
App (Sunbelt), Charlotte (CUSA), Davidson (A10), ECU (AAC), UNCG (SoCon), UNCW (CAA), Central (MEAC), A&T (Big South)

I wish their was some influencer who could get egos to be put aside and to make it happen.

That would be a fun tourney to have happen. Rotate it around to different host schools yearly.

Seems Will McCracken has left the team and Jay Estime has transferred to Chowan to play for Rob Burke. Plenty of players in those positions and will actually allow those on the team to have more PT.

Sure does seem to have problems keeping kids around. No matter which way you paint it, it's troublesome.

Estime wasn't going to get any PT on this team, so not really surprised. McCracken left before summer practices ever got started go. I don't see it as troublesome, just the way it is in this free transfer environment.

It’s a trend, and kids leaving is a bad one, last year was a mass exodus and this year we have lost two before the season has even started. There is no way to sugar coat it, sorry. Let’s hope the rest stick around

You're not worth replying to. This was an informational post and of course you try to make it bigger than it is.

Let’s look at the facts.

Two more players leaving just before school starts. One of which has never logged an official practice minute.

Will other players get PT, yes… because we have games to play.

Is it the end of the world for UNCW basketball? Probably not

Is it extremely concerning considering the guys that transferred out after last year, including one to a conference for? Uhhhh, yes. There’s no sugar coating that.

Estime was paying his way this year. We didn't have the money to keep him on scholarship and I assume a better opportunity arose with Burke at Chowan.

You are not even worth replying too. LOL funny anything that doesn't fit his agenda isn't worth talking about. Anyone with some common sense can see that this is a trend, and that trend as a whole is concerning. Do losing these two players really hurt? Prob not, but that's not the point. Several of the players in the max exodus last year DID hurt.

I don't know what went into the timing of the decision, but he's been a Walk-On throughout summer workouts from what I was told. He entered the portal last spring and essentially got no interest from the D1 level. Was given the opportunity to return as a Walk-On where he would pay for his own graduate school.

Anybody know if Samb is rolling with the Hawks? I didn’t see him on roster or overlooked him when I checked. Need all bigger bodies we can.

This was going to my contribution; Estime was in the portal, so to lose him now isn't a concern. With the added context that he didn't receive D1 interest and that he's headed to Chowan, it is less concerning. I don't mean to minimize him as a player or person. I appreciate the work he put into the program, but he didn't have much of a role moving forward. Best of luck to him; I hope he tears it up.

I'm not sure what to make of McCraken though. Two years in a row where a freshman signee never made it to campus. The portal explains some of it, but not this.

Appears Samb has been present in all of the team's group photos except for the most recent. Haven't heard anything about a departure, so I'd have to assume he just had class or might have been traveling. McCracken went absent from those photos in early July and never returned.

In all, we're still waiting for Samb, Surigao and Morrissey to be added to the roster.

Did he get a better offer late in the game?

With the transfer rules as they are now, signing them clearly doesn't lock them up
