I'm 42 lol. 8 years is nothing to me. I guess for younger fans the "what have you done for me lately" factors in more. We have beat Alabama 7 times but a young FAU fan would say, right only when Alabama sucked and I would say ohh so even the best team ever has sucked at times? Does that make them less relevant? USM needs to become a consistent winner again and then this flagship business will be sealed for good.
Great point. I would say that a very wide margin of people outside the CUSA would agree that USM would be the closest to being called the "flagship" school of the conference. It is by far the most respected and well known than the rest of the teams.
You’re only saying that because you beat them last year and it makes you look better
And we beat UAB (the Champs) the last time we played them, so what? No one is mistaking USA as a juggernaut for beating USM when we were 3-7 and had 3 coaches in one year.
‘Twas but a jest stop being so uptight

Nobody should put too much stock into what happened last year. COVID caused unprecedented disruption like we have never seen in college football. From game cancellations, to player walkouts, to last minute scheduling, to school's playing with half a roster, to schools playing late --or not at all--, to strategic cancellations,...etc.... the list of unprecedented events in 2020 just goes on and on. NOBODY should put any value into what happened last season.

RE: CUSA Flagship
Since CUSA 3.0 officially started... How many teams have finished ranked? Which team has spent the most weeks in the Top 25? What is each teams highest ranking?
I honestly have no idea the answers to these questions but that could shed a lot of light for us and they are fairly objective questions.

No current CUSA team has been to even a BCS game. No “Flagship” in my book
I agree. Some CUSA team needs to stand up and do what Boise St & Hawaii did a few years ago for the WAC. They played in BCS games, and WON some of 'em. CUSA desperately needs that. We don't need another team "backing into" a CUSA championship. We need a CUSA representative that's going to dish out azzz whippings!
Could not have expressed it better!!!
FAU had that in Kiffin's first year, but they **** the bed OOC. We just can't put together a truly dominant team in conference and out.
I think a selection of OOC opposition matters. On one hand, you want to beat a notable opponent, on the other hand, you don't want to pad your resume with the likes of Duke, Kansas, or Purdue. UCF had tried (but failed) to thread the needle, but it is hard. They came close with their victory over Auburn (if I remember correctly). Clearly, if we have visions of BCS games, we need to stop scheduling the Alabamas, Ohio States and Oklahomas of this world. But that is where the biggest pay of all body bag games is...
Auburn was who the played and beat in the BCS Bowl, not a regular season OOC game.

Actually, he's saying that because of the beat down we are going to put on them in the opener and this makes it hurt less. (Smack talk to our next opponent, got to have some fun!)

No one knows the answers to these questions? I’m traveling this week so I don’t have the time, but since no one else seems to know, I’m going to claim Marshall is the answer to all those questions. Therefore, we are the flagship.

Nobody cares what happened more than 20 years ago (I should say 10 but I'm stretching it) How about requoting with a timeframe that's relative to the real world.

I dont believe that was the question(s) asked.
But maybe you were just bringing information into the thread? In that case I will add give some of the rest of us 30 to 40 to 60 years to catch up....like the top 3 had.
As a fan of a team that has a very rich basketball history I would be the last person to say its not important. But unless you build on it and currently (no more than 10 years...thats pushing it) its only faded long ago history that fans of 'that team' can relate to. As a fan be proud if your team has a rich history...
dont expect others to see it through 'your' eyes if that history is long long long ago and not the same program today.

Overreaction? Maybe you dont have the common sense to understand....
your post is a classic overreaction. So let me clear this up once more. I pointed out the question had nothing to do with your answer. Maybe you just have reading comprehension problem? I then ask you if you were just adding info into the topic. Then I point out while that info is important is really something a fan of that team can be proud of but dont expect others to see it through the same lens as you...a fan of that team.
No where was I crying or complaining about anything. Like I said you must have a comprehension problem.

RE: CUSA Flagship
Some of same people that care so much about which schools were in the Swac way ago in determining who moves up don't care about top 25 appearances in the same period. Does the past matter or not? Keep it consistent.

Another brilliant comment from the SBC.

I honestly have no idea the answers to these questions but that could shed a lot of light for us and they are fairly objective questions.
No one knows the answers to these questions? I’m traveling this week so I don’t have the time, but since no one else seems to know, I’m going to claim Marshall is the answer to all those questions. Therefore, we are the flagship.
1. Marshall (7 weeks) & Western 2 weeks and knocked Marshall out of the rankings
unless you want to count Covid 2020 and we all know if the big boys were playing to start the season no way Marshall or any SBC school gets ranked before week 8.
any year other than 2020 the below schedule is not sniffing the rankings
fcs
appy st
Umass
Western
Tech
FAU
Middle
You can't ding us for our COVID schedule and not mention that we lost scheduled games at home to Pitt and Boise and away at ECU. We played who was in front of us and who was allowed to play. The only game we ducked was Charlotte but we were already not ranked by then anyway. Filled in the holes as best we could. COVID hurt our ranking as much as it helped it, assuming we won a couple of those missing games while we were still playing as a team.
National disasters are always screwing up our schedule. 9/11 lost scheduled series with TCU never made it up. Hurricane killed the South Carolina game in 2018? Never made it up. COVID cost us a perfect OOC slate with two good home games. And the worst national disaster, last realignment cost us a game with Louisville in 2014 right when they joined the ACC. They were very beatable that year and we beat them the prior year or two before that. It was made up in 2016 when they were highly ranked (top 10) and we had an egomaniac for a QB that changed his number to #1 because he thought he was #1. But that would have been a handy win in 2014 and might have offset that 1 point loss to you guys.
