It's gonna be fun playing Who's on first, What's on second, I Don't Know's on third tonight. Although it's probably a safe bet that Pujols will get a rare start vs a RHP. I'm sure that will go well.

Why? Oh, he’s the left fielder. 03-wink

Question RE: MLB 2021 Thread
Back when we had pitching:

On July 22, 1997, Greg Maddux tossed an efficient complete game in just 76 pitches against the Cubs to lead the Braves to a 4-1 victory. He threw 63 strikes and had six strikeouts.

Question RE: MLB 2021 Thread
Heading into Wednesday's game, Nats' Juan Soto was hitting .475/.596/1.050 with seven home runs over an 11-game span. Just like that, he leads the NL in OBP and is slugging over .500. Go for it. Ya'll "slug" it out for the NLeast title this year with the Metz and Philberts. I want us to tank and get some value for Charlie Moton, Drew Smiley and Will Smith at the deadline...still doesn't look like we're going anywhere this season....so many better teams looking for pitching help, it'd be a shame if we didn't try to stock up on some of our many needs. Anyone git a cather for the Braves (i mean a good one)?

I'd guess you aren't getting rid of Smith. Smyly not really trending the right way but he'll get something minor in return.

Of course with the Mets screwing around the last 10 games- 5-5 vs Pirates and Reds- they've left the door wide open.

Why is everyone talking about Joey Gallo? I mean, he's short, flat, slow, and Judges don't like him (which means, despite his Brooklyn accent, he ain't going to NY):

My hunch, and Brookes will lol- is that he ultimately goes to the Dodgers....

Question RE: MLB 2021 Thread
Nice that we didn't re-sign Josh Donaldson a few years ago...Austin Riley showing his freshman year form with a grand slam and a 2 run HR tonight. He's been on fire raising his average all the way up to .288 from his ice cold start.
Braves still .500ing it but could trade both Morton and Smyley with Huascar Ynoa and Anderson coming back in August and the recent decent starts from both Muller and Touki Toussant.

And unreal Braves have scored 45 more runs than they've allowed, and Metz only +4, eyt Metz still lead div by 3.5 over Phils. If Braves starting pitching can heal itslef internally, wecould have the best of all worlds, trade an expiring contract for some help/prospects and still have a shot at division if Metz don;t get too much for themselves by Friday. At least weknow they won't likely get Scherzer.

BTW, apparently Nats have said that only untradeable is Soto...which means theoretically Turner could go. What's your take on that?

Question RE: MLB 2021 Thread
Joey Votto also hit 2 and now has HR in past 4 games for Reds...helping them inch a little closer at the Cubs' expense. Hitless wonder Jason Heyward at .200 and about to go under. Soooo glad we didn't hang onto him years ago.

Question RE: MLB 2021 Thread
Marte to the A's...and Marlins eat his entire salary to get top prospect Jesús Luzardo, who grew up about 50 miles away from Miami and attended Stoneman Douglas HS. Guess the A's realize their winter will take them down a notch with all those arb players they will have to deal with. Best to go for it now, then try to relaod later.

Dodgers would have a lot that would be interesting. Bowden was saying Cartaya and Pepiot for him. That'd be really good.

I'm torn. Scherzer would be a great get but Dodgers have had mixed results acquiring star-level guys late in their careers. Really depends on the trade. I have no problem giving up Cartaya but Pepiot looks like he could have a really high ceiling. Feels like a lot to give up for a 3 month rental. On the other hand, if it's a HOF rental that can get you to the WS? If this was last year I would been on board immediately. But now... man, I really don't know.

The A's want to squeeze money out of Oakland this year for their proposed real estate development with a ballpark adjunct, and they might have a better chance of doing that if they make the playoffs. Scrooge McFisher gets a nice bonus for himself by not having to pay any of Marte's salary.

It's no coincidence that the Padres loaded up and made a run to the World Series in October 1998, a few weeks before the November vote that provided public money for the construction of Petco Park.
