I’d be all for purging our universities of Leftys and their Marxist curriculum but that has ZERO to do with athletics

Look, I get it, but this is all hypothetical so just say “What if Martians landed in Austin and forced A&M to play UNT every year or they blow up the earth”

This wouldn't be about getting A&M out of the SEC. It would be about the state gaining more control over all of the large state universities. All I'm saying is that they may look at an option like this some day.

Have you been to Austin lately? There are homeless people everywhere. People strung out on drugs wandering aimlessly. As the problems mount, I don't know what the legislators might consider mandating. I'm not saying it will happen, just that at some point if the divide continues, they may look at an option like this.

This non sequitur is ridiculous. "There are homeless people in Austin so the Texas legislature might require UT to play North Texas." What the hell?

Austin is the most liberal city in Texas. UT has been a major influence on the city's liberal culture/problems. People that have spent any amount of time in Austin know this. Again, it isn't about forcing this team to play that team. It would be about the state gaining more control over the largest state universities.

The governor already gets to pick the UT board of regents, who have final say over university decisions. Forcing UT to play North Texas is peanuts compared to the control that they already have. And again, I think the connections you are drawing are fabricated.

Duh. That is why the state could mandate these programs conference together in the first place. Believe me, if the state of Texas should ever consider an option like this, it will be based on the state government believing they will gain some political and economic advantage. Texas is a red state, and the political machine in Austin plans on keeping it that way. That is not a fabrication, regardless of what you think.

What? No it's not. The Texas legislature could pass a law requiring the Texas schools to play each other. This was your original proposition. Such a law is unrelated to the governor's ability to appoint regents who control UT. In effect, the political right already controls UT. You haven't given a compelling explanation as to what the legislature would gain from passing such a law. All you've said is "maybe someday." Sure, maybe, but there's no reason to expect it to happen.
