Jonsboro has constructed a massive new dining area downtown, has recruited many among the top 100 chefs in the country and now have competent councilpeople running food and beverage, along with tourism and infrastructure. I know Memphis has always been better than Jonsboro, up to now, but everything is different now.
I would be shocked if Memphis beats Jonsboro at food in September. J

It is out of this world.
This is true. You appreciate it a lot more when you can’t get it. Back when I moved around the country a lot (and BBQ/southern cooking options were slim to none), I’d drive for hours in search of something that tastes like home.

There are many fine restaurants in New Orleans. The Creole cooking of New Orleans is the distinctive native cuisine. It differs from the Cajun cooking of French Louisana (south and west of the swamp). I tend to avoid Cajun food in New Orleans and Creole food in French Louisana.
In New Orleans, Creole has always meant a melange of styles in an attempt to find the finest or best dishes. The food like the people is a mix of French, Spanish, Native American, and African. Cajun is down home cooking, hearty but mainly it reflects its Acadian French roots.
Those are distinctive styles that are attributed to Louisiana. Cajun of course is pure gator coon ass, but there were Creole up and down the Mississippi Delta.
The thing about Memphis cooking that is distinctive to this city is our slow cooked pork dry rub style. It seems this is more appetizing to a Saturday football crowd than ettoufee (creole or cajun) or jambalaya (creole of french, west african, spanish influence and a bit reminiscent of paella). I believe a tailgate with any of these dishes might cause you to miss the opening kick-off!

Totally agree with you if it's a possible tailgate situation. But if there's a one or two night stay, NO is my easily my favorite. There is no shame for Memphis to be #2 on this list. I'm more pissed that Nashville is now rising on these social media polls because of their "eclectic" places, bars and new raunts downtown.

a college football fan might decide that Memphis is more enjoyable -- you can only go to so many places while on a road trip - Memphis has great casual food -- the best BBQ in the world and possible the best fried chicken and damn good wings -- is New Orleans' 50th best restaurant better than Memphis' 25th best restaurant , yes-- but for a college football fan coming to a game on a medium sized buget for 1-1/2 to 3 days Memphis would be hard to beat

My impression is the poll is not measuring game day food. It's the entire food scene in a particular town, regardless of football, basketball, etc.
And I agree with those who say NOLA is better than Memphis. I LOVE Memphis, and the Tigers, and BBQ, but when it comes to food, it's hard to beat the variety in NOLA.
Gumbo, jambalaya, beignets, red beans & rice, crawfish boils, boudin, muffalettas, po boys, king cakes, pralines, BBQ shrimp, oysters, bread pudding, snowballs, etc.
I think we should be second.

Dunno TripleA, I think this stadium food and the game day food have to count for something. It's a sports centric poll.
Agree NO is all round better. But Ned is right about the game day food... I bet Yulman aint got no Turkey Legs!!!

Weird. I was just telling my wife it would be worth the drive to Lafayette, LA to spend few days there and that the food was supposed to be really good and....the Ragin Cajuns show up at #4 on that list.

Just got back from NOLA today, and after trying to eat everything in sight, I have to agree with the others that as good as the Memphis food is, nothing beats Nawlins.

The poll says "College Town Food Scene."
And you guys are assuming football stadium food. It doesn't even mention football or basketball. Or stadiums.
I think my argument would win in court, lol.
