RE: Oklahoma State Lands Memphis transfer Moussa Cisse
Quote:"Everyone is going to be shocked," Cisse said. "I've been working really hard. My shot has developed. I'm going to be a different person in terms of my movement, court vision, and ability to catch and finish around the rim. I've been working hard on my free throws. I've improved doing a lot of the simple things."
A lot of our fans were critical of this statement, asking why he didn't do this at Memphis. I give him a pass. IF the summer wasn't totally wiped out, he would have had more coaching, more time to develop, and most importantly, he would have been more aware of the huge jump in talent and the hard work needed. His attitude was fairly typical for a freshman.
He hasn't been playing very long; he hasn't had a lot of quality coaching, he doesn't know the game, and he hasn't spent more than a year in any one spot. Anyone who thinks he is going to ride the bench, or won't develop, is crazy. He has a good shot at averaging 28 minutes and a double double at OKU.

I didn't watch much CBB last year, and if I do it tends to be BigXII. I don't know what the big men in the conf are going to be like, but I suspect Moussa, or should that be who-ssa, is going to be the most athletic. He may get banged around and be left in the dust by some with advanced footwork, but I think he'll be a noticed presence in most of the conf games.

He is probably just repeating what the scouts told him.

I think you are right...
I will be difficult to replace what we lost. Going to require Earl to be very good and a couple of freshmen to contribute.
But the guys who left appeared to be disgruntled...Boogie, DJ and Moussa.
Penny hints at changing the environment around the program which makes you think he didn't like how things were in the past. It is all speculation so who knows.
Bottom line is if next years team is not as good as this years team it reflects negatively on Penny...Regardless of the reasons why the players left.
Players leave. Every transfer is not an indictment on the coach, or else every coach in America is indicted. If you get better players than those who leave, shouldn't that reflect positively on the coach?
You did get one thing right. If the team takes a step back, it reflects negatively on Penny. I think that's a given for any program and any coach, but if you feel compelled to say it, by all means.

But if you wanna be real, our struggles early in the year were tied directly to Penny trust in DJ as the best player on our team. Remember all the plays Penny ran for DJ to score during the tournament in South Dakota and verses Auburn and DJ couldn't produce. Maybe DJ wasn't comfortable and their communication was off and that affected DJ's play. I can't see where he can fault Penny for his play.
All 3 of those guys got YUGE opportunity at Memphis. Penny went above and beyond to give them starts and minutes. They might complain about playing out of position (DJ), or having a backup take minutes (Boogie), or not being in late in games (Cisse) - but that's basketball trying to win games. Good luck finding a coach that wouldn't do those same things. I know it's human nature to blame the coach, but the complaints are shallow and simply won't stick.

DJ was told that if he stayed he would be playing the 4 mostly. Not the position him or his dad wants him to play. Cisse wanted to play 30+ minutes and be featured offensively. Boogie wanted to go home since last year. Baugh just wanted more playing time. They are all good kids but it was time to move on. Penny wants guys who put team first.

Not sure why you are so argumentative when you agree with what I stated
RE: Oklahoma State Lands Memphis transfer Moussa Cisse
There was one home game last year that the Tigers were struggling bad and then mid to late in the first half Moussa made about 3 big plays in a row and really got the team energized….they turned it around from there. He got pulled shortly after and played very little in the 2nd half.
That game even had me wondering why Moussa didn’t play more in 2nd half…Thinking that might have been the start to the ending.
