247 Sports Transfer Portal Rankings
https://247sports.com/college/smu/LongFo...7684946_12

They posted this on the SMU board on 247 and I thought there were a lot of interesting points in these rankings:

- Damn Tennessee lost a lot. Top two transfers in the portal transferred out of there.
- SMU gets 3 in the top 100, does the best of any G5 school.
- The concerns about the G5 losing talent to the P5 aren't unfounded. Count 13 of the top 50 doing that with only 3 going from P5 to G5, and the trend largely continues from there.
- Good news/bad news for an SMU fan - Memphis lost two transfers rated as high or higher than our top two coming in. They both went to TCU.
- DAMN Tennessee lost a lot. They lost another two players, 4 overall, in the top 21.
- Oklahoma, Georgia, Auburn, LSU and USC are all over the place. Lose a ton, gain a ton.
- Don't see any other G5 but SMU making any major impact in the portal outside of one transfer to BYU in the top 20. Only onesies and twosies outside of us from there out out.
- lol Lance Leopold robbed Buffalo walking out the door - looked it up. Walked out with 6 transfers from Buffalo, and I'm sure they weren't the backups on the team.
- HOLY DAMN Tennessee lost a lot. ANOTHER 3 arguably in the top 100. They pick up a couple of kids near the bottom of the top 150 to help soften the blow. Heck, you would have think Heupel could have brought a few kids to UT like Leopold to Kansas - didn't happen.
- Still talent out there that is uncommitted. We're past date for eligibility this season, and these kids are all top 150, so they may have messed up.
- TCU ends up bringing in 3 top 100 transfers and losing 3 top 150 transfers. Nice - somewhat evens out. Memphis loses 3 gains one.
- UCF took a hit and lost 3 in the top 50, but pick up the DE Big Cat Bryant and a WR from Notre Dame at 121 to help lesson the blow.

Aaaaaaanndd another one leaves Tennessee....

I think they'll look back on this and Iverson Clement will have a better career than Re'Mahn Davis and his whiny me first attitude.

RE: 247 Sports Transfer Portal Rankings
Memphis loses 3, gains one? Maybe in SMU site's Top 150, but we had 3 other big time transfers besides Gunnell at QB.

One from Miss State, two from Michigan State, iirc. One D back, one OL, I forget the 3rd. D line, maybe? All 3 are likely starters.

I'll look up the details.

Also, Eze and Carter are overrated. Neither performed well, and we replaced them with likely better.

From a recent article on GT247:

The Tigers landed a ton of transfers that have the potential to make an immediate impact...There are so many good options here...

1. Grant Gunnell - #55 on SMU's list, and the projected starter at QB

2. Julian Barnett, Michigan State CB. A projected starter, and described by GT247 as potentially one of the best defensive backs in the AAC.

3. Austin Myers from TCU could be a starter for the Tigers and brings a veteran presence to an offensive line...

Beyond those 3, we also have another transfer from Michigan State, and one from Miss State, at a minimum, whether they make the SMU 150, or not. Both of those will be in the rotation and possible starters, as well.

So it's not really lose 3, gain one.

This is where I don't quite like ranking transfers. That's one HELL of a projection for a player who has 5 games under his belt as a backup DB with 3 total tackles in his career at that position after switching from a WR due to a lack of healthy DBs last season for bad Michigan State. Did they say that about him for THIS YEAR or at some point in his career.

Dobbs at least has the recruiting pedigree, but even he has next to no game action to consider him a top talent on the OL in practice.

My guess is this ranking was based more on past projection than projected impact.

^^ I think that's true for most of them. They were unhappy where they were, so something wasn't working out.

I will say that Barnett was an absolute beast in the spring game. INT for a TD, iirc. Or at least a big INT.

Add to that former 4* WR Shamar Nash from AR and we'll see what C Jakari Robinson a former starter for Cincinnati can do (being replaced by a Freshman might be a flag or Renfro may have just been that good).

I think what Memphis did in the transfer portal this year is really underestimated by plenty outside of Memphis.

Yeah he's a big add too. I left him off since he came before last season and just had to sit out for the season.

Kind of a bit of both there...he was decent, but utterly infuriating. The amount of gut rushes that just blew up plays before they even started was astronomical with him in there. There's a reason why the offense took off when Robinson and Cooper were benched before the SMU game.

Yeah, SMU picked up a few other ones we thought were big-time as well but weren't ranked: a 4* CB from Florida who will probably start for us, a starting TE and WR from Arizona State, and a Lou Groza Finalist K from Wazzou - we thought they should all be ranked as well but weren't. No doubt it's difficult to understand how they ranked everyone, this is just a few guys takes, although it wasn't 'SMU's' per se.
