If people think the other two are better than how do you get enough touches for all. If Waylee is the homerun hitter I think he is, I want 20+ touches a game. Every touch could be a 60 yard run. Good problem to have

I saw a tweet awhile back that said that Hammock is going to use Ducker in that James White type role. I think Waylee will be the home run hitter with Brown as the primary backup for now. I wonder with the size of Brown if he will be used to go between the tackles and get the tough yards too. I also wouldn't be surprised if Trey Urwiler was used a little bit in the backfield too

Absolutely how Ducker should be used. Did you guys see the video that Hammock posted on twitter and tagged White in?? That route was RIDICULOUS!!!

Trey Urwiler is not going to be used out the backfield unless you count the occasional jet sweep. He is an excellent route runner and when he gets up to full speed he can really go, but he is not a RB. He would never have even been used in that type of roll in HS if it had not been for injuries and him being not only the best athlete on the field, but being totally selfless and willing to do anything for his team, even if it meant doing things that were not at all in his wheelhouse.

Not to mention when you have a roster that has Waylee, Collins, Ducker, Ratkovich, Chapman, Brown, Bolden, Lawson, Beiber, Blakemore, Solomon, and Harris....There aren't any spare carries laying around for the foreseeable future.

Here's a fun discussion topic, to me anyway. As great as Waylee looked in spring, what would happen if two other guys blow up in fall camp and Waylee is ordinary? Let's say some combination of Collins, Ducker and Anterio Brown take it to the house every time they touch the ball and Waylee is just getting a few yards here and there. Discuss.

I dont think there is anything to discuss. If that were to happen the answer is obvious. Those who produce, play. Period.

Hammock seems to give whoever plays well the time. Look at guys who probably look good at practice and camps (Dillon Thomas for example) - if they screw up they end up sitting on the bench. If you play well you play (O'Malley is an example from last season who earned more time.)

I think there is space for 3 running backs to get carries this season. Waylee isn't tiny, but you also don't want him getting 25 carries a game. Brown/Drucker/Collins will see a bunch of snaps too.

Yeah, I don’t think Waylee needs to be a bell cow. If NIU’s offense is good, they’re going to have the ball a lot. I don’t think this offense is designed to be the Doeren type offense. It’s going to be more like the kill ball control super efficient style. There’s going to be quite a few carries to go around.

RE: Running Back U
It would be great if there is a Cameron Stingily type RB who can get a lot of second half carries when the Huskies have a lead. A big bruiser type that can punish and wear down defenses. I'm thinking maybe Collins can play that role, but he will need to get his yards per carry higher to be effective. I though Ratkovich was a big bruiser type, but when I looked up his stats I found that he barely got carries and was used as a pass catching back.

I'm excited to see what Jevyon Ducker and Antario Brown can bring to the table. Ducker had impressive high school tape and Brown looks big AND fast. If either of them live up to their hype then the Huskies could have a hell of a backfield for years to come.

I wouldnt put too much stock in how another team used a player vs how a new team will use them. Ratkovich was definitely getting carries in spring ball, and he is listed as a RB on the roster.

Based on that it seems the current depth chart is:

1) Waylee
2) Ducker
3) Collins
4) The Rat Dog

It would appear to me that Waylee/Ducker are going to get the bulk of the normal down and distance/3rd and long stuff. Collins/Rat Dog have their uses. Collins for short yardage and I bet Rat Dog is going to be your ultra back out there. H-Back/Fullback/Tailback/etc.

Exactly how I would do it it. I like the way it's shaping up!

+1

Ducker: “We just gotta make sure we get him healthy.”

And yes, The Rat will be an Ulta Back!

If anyone was wondering; Lynch was second in 2013 by 157 yards to Andre willams and in 2012 he was 4th but only by 114 yards. Bad bowl games both years hurt reaching #1.

Those damn bowl games! If we ever win a bowl game, we should have a massive celebration in DeKalb like we won the national championship. I think the last time we won a bowl game I was just getting out of puberty. (Okay, so I never left, but you get the idea!)

I propose a annual bowl match up against Fresno State called The Sauce Bowl. Soy, BBQ, Shrimp….tons of sponsorships abound

AJ Harris was a stud. He would've been Chad Spann good imo. He just wasn't Garrett Wolfe good...

Anterio Brown, holy smokes. He looks so much like a young Michael Turner to me. Great job getting tough yards and protecting the football. He and Waylee will be a nightmare for defenses.

That reversal of EMU’s fourth down completion with about eight minutes left was huge. Probably the right call but I wasn’t sure they would have the guts to make it.

Brown looked very good.

This kid deserves his own thread. Really. The difference was night and day when he came in. He sees holes. He is quick. He has good instincts. He sees the hole. If it's not there, he makes the quick decision (maybe once too quick, but I'll take it) to look elsewhere. and he ends the run by delivering a blow. Oh, and he looks to gain every possible foot. And I hear that he has speed. Oh my! He reminded me a bit of Chad Spahn in that he runs with real desire and determination. I LOVED what I saw and want to see more of it.

While it’s not his own thread, there is this thread here.
