Saw on Twitter that Tom Vincent (A&M) is transferring to Rice.

LHP/1B/OF Tom Vincent (A&M), another class of 2020 recruit from Memorial, also just transferred. He doesn't appear to have played at all last year for the Aggies-- trying to find out if he was injured or redshirted from the get-go...

...and, yes, I'm hearing more to come!

All of these guys are “takes” that I think are definitely better than the last three guys on our 2021 roster, but I don’t think any of them are going to get us to Omaha in 2022 (not as if I’m expecting that in Cruz’s first year, to be clear).

I don't think the goal is to get us to Omaha in 2022. But I do think the goal is to get us to Omaha, and to do so quickly and repeatedly. And I support that goal. I wish all our sports had similar aspirations.

My goal is more than just getting there. But it is an important step.

I think you're being a bit unfair in your assessment. All of these guys were very heavily recruited out of high school by elite P5 programs. They never got a chance to play regularly last year. Vincent was redshirted and has 4 years of eligibility remaining. I think all of these guys are better than half our current roster. Add these 3 to Walsh, Garibay and Becker, and you got one heck of a nucleus of young players...and we have a couple more good ones coming in as true Freshmen this Fall.

Mark Berman spoke to Vincent regarding his decision to transfer...

...and here's Mark Berman's conversation with Riedel, who had interest from both A&M and TCU before making his decision on Rice. Sounds like Cheito is getting VERY actively involved in the recruiting...

How many of the top-500 recruits are playing college ball and how many went pro? I don’t follow baseball recruiting at all, but these guys certainly sound talented and certainly sound like they more talent then a lot of Rice’s roster in recent years. Time will ultimately tell, but I am happy to see some immediate transfers of this caliber coming to Rice.

Me, too. Just wish Edmonds was having similar success.

I agree with the bolded part above. If these transfers raise the level of talent on the roster, and - like Coach Cruz did when he came to Rice in the mid-90s - reasserts Rice as a major player for local Texas talent, then, yes, I would say they could be game changers. The hope is their past successes are indicative of future ones for the Owls.

That should be pretty easy for basketball, just schedule Nebraska-Omaha each year. I bet they would agree to alternating home-and-homes for the men's and women's teams.

Football would be trickier, given the lack of an opposing team. Time for some Unconventional Wisdom!

Looks like we just landed another transfer as both Cheito and Bostick just tweeted the Owl meme. Bostick's tweet read, "One GIF may not be enough for this one". I'm hearing it's a big time arm this time. And another 1 or 2 are still in the mix.

Cheito gave a nice talk today at the ROMEO meeting. Look for him to bring back the better unis. He compared Woodcox’s hands to Rendon’s. He says they are still in on a three to four transfers. If we get two, he says we will be fantastic. Here’s hoping tonight’s meme is one of them.

Me too. I cannot understand why they do not identify the transfer when they announce one is coming.

They always let the player make the announcement first, so as to not steal his thunder.

Exactly. Actually, we rarely if ever make announcements of individual signings/commitments. And this is true across all sports. Our coaches to the designated memes/GIFs when they commit, and then like or retweet when the players posts his announcement.

RE: [split] Baseball Recruiting 2021 and beyond
I think Rice doesn't announce the "commitment" of a transfer since it is probably prohibited by NCAA rules...a "committed transfer" has no obligation to the school and is probably considered a prospective student athlete until he/she attends classes (or participates in team activities).

It may even be the case that even participating in on-campus team activities prior to actually attending classes may not remove the classification as a "prospective student-athlete"

A partial 2022 baseball roster is now online. It doesn't have some players (pitchers) that have been talked about recently (Dillon Janik for one, and Roel Garcia for another).

Janac is definitely still on the team. And he never entered the transfer portal.

We knew Antonio would be back, but good to see Dunlap decided to return, as well (as he did graduate). Strange that none of the newcomers are included (e.g., Burbank's brother who was JUCO POY or any of the recruiting class).
