RE: Basketball Facility Updates
They have started the steel framing on the north and south sides of the structure. Probably, the only finished part this season, will be the actual court/arena area of the coliseum. I don't think the additional structures will be fully complete until after the Spring. One thing I hate to see go will be the Moody bats. For decades, there was a group of bats that lived high up in the ceiling of the structure. When Moody got really rocking, the bats would come out and swoop the fans and players. It was great.

RE: Basketball Facility Updates
Great walkthrough video of SFA's new facility. I hope we would eventually get something similar when we get further along.

He started the politics with this post and I responded. My first amendment right. I'm sure you have heard of the constitution right?

You do know that applies to public spaces and not private ones right? And yes, I have a pocket constitution from the CATO Institute in my wallet.

Can we please used this thread for what the title suggests? And, take the all other non-topic conversations offline (private messaging). This is exactly why I believe there should be no room for blatantly political speech on a college sports specific website. And, that should go from the moderator on down. I have spoken my piece.

RE: Basketball Facility Updates
BTW off the tops of your heads does anyone know who in the new WAC has the largest BB arena? Including any new or in process venues. Also who averages the most fans? I would think GCU is up near or at the top as far as capacity goes for attendance. Interested to know how the new Texas schools do as far as attendance goes.

Using 2019-2020 averages:

- ACU: 1,259
- Lamar: 2,199
- SFA: 3,582
- SHSU: 1,138

RE: Basketball Facility Updates
Looks like Bernard Johnson Coliseum is getting a new court paint job as well.

Can anyone explain to why there are not retractable bleachers on both sides of the court? The court seems unfinished that way. Obviously SHSU's arena could be 1000-seats or more greater in capacity.

BTW, SFA attendance is decent but SHSU, ACU and Lamar's attendance numbers are disappointing. I think we will see CBU's attendance figures continue to claim as well as Dixie State. With Aimaq returning, UVU fans better show him some love by attending games. And GCU and NMSU attendance are head and shoulders above the rest of the WAC; and yet NMSU's attendance numbers still not what the used to be when they first joined the WAC.

ACU is still trying to build its BB fanbase again. Moody used to be packed years ago, but a long strand of bottom dwelling play and recruiting killed it. Fans are beginning to see the value and excitement of the games again. For the most part though, ACU has never been known for leading attendance in its sports. Sadly, ACU is not really considered part of the general population of Abilene and doesn't draw much attendance from those not associated with the school somehow.

Based on what I read in the link above, NMSU still has the largest arena. I don't know what changes SFA is making but my recollection is their arena was at around 7,000. The changes might affect this but Lamar had the largest arena in the Southland with a capacity of 9567.

RE: Basketball Facility Updates
This is the environment the Texas 4 could see if they pose a legit challenge to NMSU. Aggies crowds typically range between 4,500 and 7,000 depending on fan interest in the team rolling into town.

The game below happened to be against our archrival UTEP. The crowd that night was 6,125.

NMSU has a true home court advantage. NMSU ranks #4 nationally in home court winning percentage (0.911) over the last 10 years...

And, GCU probably has the animated fan support in the WAC almost ever game is a sellout (near 7,000)...

Here is their pre-game against Illinois...

And this is typical for every game...

Shouldn't we expect the entire Texas 4 to get new courts/paint jobs this year? Doubt we would let them roll into the WAC with the Southland logo.

Last season, I think Dixie State and Tarleton State just added the WAC logo. SHSU is repainting its whole court plus adding the WAC logos.

All of the four new teams this year either have or will soon be repainting their courts. Lamar has completed the football field and volleyball court. Basketball is to be done in the near future. I assume any reference to the SLC will be changed to the WAC for the baseball, softball and soccer fields.

Ok not trying to troll here, this is an honest question, but doesn't GCU either pay or require their students to go to games? I wanna say I read something along those lines. Definitely couldve been fan fiction though
