I actually really liked Penny as a player, college and pro.

But with the talent he has brought to memphis, I would be dissapointed to date with zero tourney appearences.

He better hurry up and get it done, because very soon Coach Wes and the Bearcats are going to be a major impediment to his memphis state teams.

I kind a like it when fans of other teams come to discuss their teams. Brings a different insight and perspective. Would be nice if we did that a little bit more before a game. But maybe that type of discussion (and friendly smack talk) happens on the conference board. I don’t read that.

Shouldn’t that be more important to Memphis fans than Penny moving to the NBA at some point?

I did appreciate the Memphis hospitality when my father and I were at the Pyramid for the GMWC tourney, and watched the Bearcats take the win and the title over penny and Memphis State.

Did Penny ever beat the Bearcats as a player?

I always liked Penny. Classy and appears to be a great guy. Huggins Was often able to game plan in a way to eliminate the other teams best player.

Never forget Driving over to Kansas City and Sweet 16 & the elite eight. Our vehicle was all painted up Bearcat flags, etc. Some of Memphis fans would drive-by. We would put four fingers up, showing that we were going to beat them for the fourth time. The Memphis fans would shake their head and agreeing that they will probably lose lol.

That’s Classic game to go back and watch. I remember the Hollywood play where I think Cory Blount throws a no look bounce pass to Eric Martin for a dunk. Play they used in California.

I seem to recall UC would trap Penny and force him to give up the ball and then make it damn hard for him to get it back timely.

Brother, you are coming off way more thin skinned than BearcatJerry.

I think Larry Brown wanted to keep coaching, he simply does not want to deal with all the drama of being the head coach. He is 80 years old, being an assistant is a more appealing gig at this stage of his life. He can mentor Penny and play a big role in the x and o area. Penny wanted to bring LB in when he first got the job and talked openly about it. So its been in the works for a while.

I think its sucks Cronin left UC, he had your program rolling. Most fans in Memphis want the bearcats to be a top 25 team again, its just better for the conference.

Lets hope Kelvin Sampson stays in Houston.
