He's been at 3 high schools, including a year at Lincoln. Let's see how many colleges he can attend in 4 years.

Plus a recent decommit from IUPUI

Plus aren't we stocked with PGs?

Guess not

Not sure I see it that way. What I mean the reason we are getting Noah is two fold:

1). BPA (best player available). High potential recruit.

2). Step brother of James Scott.

3). Could we see Noah and James together in the backcourt? Think they might make a good tandem? 03-idea

My guess is that IF Noah was not available, then we would not have gone for a PG.

Agree or disagree that is my view from 30,000 feet or 500 miles (choose you analogy I'm not flying today, though).

Could also mean a lot of 3-guard lineups, which I’m not opposed to at all. Especially when you have Luka, Scott, and Rice, who are all bigger guards. As you said, recruit the best players that you can and make it work after.

Agree and as I'm suggesting, having two brothers on a team is big for each.

If I'm James Scott I'm a happy camper... 02-13-banana

Anyone, besides me, and "Father Time" (and maybe, Jerry W., and Ken B., too) remember the Van Arsdale (Dick and Tom) twins? P.S. Insert joke that your Medicare card is turning yellow. 03-lmfao but feel good, you also passed a quick cognitive test.

RE: Unofficial 2021 Men's Basketball Recruiting Thread
Think you’re on the right track. As Noah and Scott faired very well together playing in pick-up games against good players.

Want to raise the possibility of 4-guard line-up with Farrakhan, McBride (or Luka), Scott, Rice, playing with Njie, as EMU’s strongest line-up. Provides EMU with more scoring and will force more opponent turnovers. Might also result in fewer EMU turnovers as EMU will play in fewer half-court sets. Not necessarily starting line-up, but may be most productive line-up.

Don’t see much scoring from the front-court. That would change if two more recruits signed, and one is a hybrid SF-PF who can shoot the ball.

Winning the turnover battle has more value than winning the offensive rebounding battle. But would point-out that both Rice and Scott are good rebounders.

Will deter opponents from shooting three’s, will result in more two points jump shots that are usually shot at a low percentage, and if opponent want to crash their offensive boards, that will set up EMU fast-breaks.

That was Temple’s best line-up when Scott played for Temple. Best both UCOnn and SMU employing it. Something to consider.

For those old enough to remember the late 80s, Paul Westhead (Loyola Marymount, etc.) used a lethal, fast paced offense which was run and gun on steroids.

When a team runs like a bunch of greyhounds the size factor is negated. If our guards are faster than their big men, we can outscore them.

Baylor just won a title starting 4 “guards” (Mark Vital was listed as a guard, but he is 6’5 250), and Villanova had lots of success in the 2000s playing 4 guards. Obviously we aren’t either of those programs, but it can be done on a much smaller scale if you have the talent. And I have no problem playing fast. It would be a welcomed change from the previous regime.

Sam, if you are interested search YouTube, Google, etc. and see if you can find some Loyola Marymount from the late 1980s where they were lowly ranked and beat a very talented UofM team with 'Paul (Westhead) Ball.' They scored 149 points against the UofM. OMG.

The game is played a break neck speed. Think they averaged OVER 120 ppg in the late 1980s. A NCAA record.

The tallest player might have been shorter than a PF or maybe the same size as a SF.

(06-20-2021 07:41 PM)Miggy Wrote:  Playing time not always based on merit. ECU had veteran guards, and he was new guy on the block.

ECU played in a system that was based on getting the ball to the.bigs inside. The painted was always cluttered so perimeter players couldn’t get to the hoop. That negated half of Noah’s game. That won’t happen in EMU HC Heath’s spread the floor offense.

His jump shot was fine. At ECU, Noah shot 52.9 percent (9-17) on two-point jump shots. Small sample, but that’s excellent.

At EMU, Noah shot 33 percent (5-15) on three’s. Some taken as he was passed the ball as clock expiring. Also a small sample. Changed his shot this summer so he’ll shoot more with legs, less with arms. He’s a good jump shooter.

In HS, Noah was a tremendous ball-stealer. Playing in Heath’s man to man defense should bring that back into his game.

So considering the young man's many offers how did he end up to East Carolina rather than accepting one of the high major offers he had?

So after 'all of these posts' we have seeming concluded that EMU will try to really space the floor with a lot of perimeter players, big man sets the picks, etc. Probably run as much as it can based off of defensive rebounds. have a bunch of two PG lineups?

Team will make shots and win or miss tons of shots and look terrible.

I will wait and see what system Coach Heath puts in place in the actual games.

RE: Unofficial 2021 Men's Basketball Recruiting Thread
No reason to look backward as to why a player picked a school.

Doubt EMU will be a run and gun team.

Believe they have a plethora of good shooters and a few players who can get to the rim. See some triple threat players. But just because a player did it last season, unless he puts the time-in, doesn’t mean he’ll do it this season.

EMU should be deadly in transition.

Hope the HC and the players police themselves so they don’t keep jacking-up three’s if they’re missing them. At a minimum, a player should have to make one of first three shot, in order to take one more. Hit that, then 1-2 to take more. Otherwise-stop. Hate 0-6, 1-7, 2-9, on three’s.

Just hope EMU plays a pressure defense on the perimeter to disrupt opponent offenses, stop the three ball, and force turnovers. EMU appears to have players who can defend the rim. Being able to do that without fouling is another thing. Players must learn that goal is to make opponent take a bad shot. If they accomplish that then no reason to foul. So frustrating to see defender foul the shooter when he has little chance of making the shot.

Why I love how Virginia plays defense. Commits three less fouls than opponents do per conference game. One reason it gives up such few points.

Believe EMU is one of the few teams that has some players who can hit two-point jump shots extremely well. We’ll see.

No Muggy you don't get a pass on why a potential NBA player chooses East Carolina after. you accused the East Carolina coaching staff there of not believing the merit system and not starting him. Hey East Carolina was only 8-11 and had nothing to lose by playing him. I don't know whether EMU will be a run and gun team or play with 3 guards. That Coach Heaths decision. We can all speculate on defense and offense but in the end it's just that speculation.

From the transfer portal article:

Farrakhan showcased excellent ball-handling ability and well above average athleticism on the court, but head coach Joe Dooley indicated multiple times throughout the year that Farrakhan was struggling a bit with how to run the offense as the point guard, and where to pick up certain things defensively. Farrakhan saw action in five of six non-conference games before seeing his playing time diminish as conference play went on. He played double-digit minutes only twice in league action.

This person thinks Noah will start at EMU and will leave after one year. I don't know this person and I honestly don't know whether you should give his opinions any weight.

RE: Unofficial 2021 Men's Basketball Recruiting Thread
I never asked Noah why he picked ECU over high-major schools. For me, there’s a myriad of reasons for an excellent player not to chose a high-major school, as well as reasons to do so. Many factors go into such a decision. Presently, in Noah’s case, it’s irrelevant.

Believe he played in 12 games at ECU. School had Covid problems.

In four ECU games he played more than 12 minutes, and his ratings were very high. He brought ECU back from deficits in some of those non-conference games. Watching ECU play, it’s offensive sets were HS-like.

As for the podcast, the podcaster had no right speculating that Noah intends to transfer or turn pro after one year at EMU. Nothing could be further from the truth. He’s so excited to play for HC Heath. He has no intention to either transfer or leave for the pro’s after one year.

As for EMU’s style of play, all I know is that HC Heath says he will implement a pro-offense and spread the floor. Also said he dislikes turnovers, and wants EMU to play well on defense. That’s all we know about his intentions.

I was providing my own assessment of how EMU should consider playing given it’s current roster. Was not speculating as to what EMU’s HC Heath intends to do.

I'm going O/T for a minute. As I have been saving, there are still many good transfers hitting the portal.

Here is a Howard commit.

https://twitter.com/HUMensBB/status/1410...06529?s=20

The Illinois star, Cockburn, entered the transfer portal.

These are not hardly Plan B players. Cockburn, I thought, was a NBA 2nd rounder.

I'd love to be a HM coach and have one or two scholarships in my back pocket.

Getting back to EMU. We still have one???

Don't know. Randle hasn't signed or publicly announced so we may two. The entire MAC has signed a nice group of transfers.

Would this grad transfer SF from Texas State via Jersey City, N,J. fit? Double digit scorer. Very good on the trey.

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basket...siah-small

EMU folks got to know him. He's from Jersey.
