Marc had offers. His dad was adamant that he was going to Spain to train and develop full time.

Cal told a story where he was trying to get Marc to come to Memphis and the dad said tell me why I should send my son to Memphis. Who have you developed? (or something like that). He told Cal Marc was going to Spain to develop.

Cal goes on in the interview to say "and you know what... he was right!"

One of the few (maybe the only time) I can recall Cal actually saying anything that might actually make himself look bad.

Moussa will never be as skilled as Gasol. He’s got great length and could turn into a solid shot blocker, but has terrible offensive skills. Gasol has evolved into a guy that can hit a 3 pointer, and he always had a mid range game. Moussa can dunk (sometimes if he actually catches the ball). He’s young and will improve, but I just don’t think he’ll ever be an offensive threat.

I don’t think he’ll be anything more than a project player for the NBA. The NBA doesn’t have a lot of room for unskilled players that can’t make a free throw.

I hope he makes a fortune in the NBA, but I just don’t see it. He’d be a waste of a roster slot. He’d get schooled in the G league now.

You are not watching the current NBA... "Skilled" big guys are not what most NBA teams are looking for. They are looking for length, athleticism, defense, rebounding and rim running.

Moussa can do all of the above.

I’ve watched plenty of NBA and Moussa doesn’t have the talent to be there. Period. I’m not sure what NBA teams you are watching but he isn’t even close to being at that level.

No, he was not last year but he was supposed to be a senior in high school last year and has played less than 6 years of organized basketball.

Looking two or three years down the road he absolutely has the potential to be in the NBA assuming he continues to develop.

It’s surprising cuz quite a few ppl believe that like the poster you replied to. As a big in today’s NBA, you have to have great hands, know how to dribble and have more in the offensive arsenal than just dunks.

No, you really do not. I can think of at least 10 NBA centers off the top of my head that play decent minutes that have very little offensive game outside of catching lobs and dunking. But they are great defensively, long, athletic and can rebound.

There is absolutely no reason that Moussa cannot develop into that type of NBA center. NBA centers tend to go one of two ways in today's NBA. They are the type described above or they are the Marc Gasol/Brooke Lopez type that are on the court to stretch the defense out.

You are thinking of players like Joel Embid and The Joker but those are your elite level centers that can do it all offensively but are by far the exception.

I don't think many can argue with that at all...

Moussa has a long road to get into the NBA. There are a lot of guys 6'10ish and athletic..

He is going to have to put in work...But he definitely has the physical tools.

RE: Where will Moussa be in 4 years?
Moussa shot 32% FT last year. That is epicly bad and will lead to a short career if it doesn't improve DRAMATICALLY.

For reference, Shaq was a world-renowned terrible FT shooter. He shot 56% his frosh year. That means Shaq made 35 more FTs than Moussa would have shooting the same number for the year. Shaq was the butt of so many FT jokes. He shot 53% for his NBA career.

Moussa shot 32%...

It wasn't like Marc was some bumbling oaf who couldn't walk and chew gum.

He didn't improve? Wow.

Not that he didn't improve.

Of course he did.

But many fall back on the silly trope that Marc was just a giant oaf who was only known because he was Pau's younger brother.

I don't see any similarities with Marc and Moussa, in that Marc was under no pressure when he went back to Spain to develop (important word) with no rush. At worst, he would be in his home country making good money.

Moussa is under a lot more pressure and I fear that if he stays in the draft, he'll set himself on a path that won't include the NBA and just be a lot of bouncing around.

He had no offers. He was known exactly for that. He had no pressure because he wasn't anything close to a decent D1 talent. The point of the post is that anyone can improve. In that respect, Gasol and Cisse are very similar.

Didn't he admit he was wrong for not putting Tyreke at point from the beginning?

Alright, name at least current 10 NBA centers that are rotation players, don’t know how to dribble and all they do is catch lobs and dunk. You obviously don’t watch much of today’s NBA.

He is for sure much better than 10 NBA centers were during their senior year of high school. Some of our fans go into hysterics if our players aren't superstars their freshman seasons.

There aren’t 10 rotational Centers currently whose only offensive game is getting a lob and dunking the ball. I have no qualms about Moussa…he has time to develop. My only comment in this thread has been about a post that states that there are a bunch of Centers in current NBA that only catches lobs and dunks the ball and has no other offensive game.

Child’s game? You try dragging Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes.

How would you know? You never had to drag anyone close to them. The only thing you ever dragged for 45 minutes on the court was your ass. You might have dragged me down that kids driveway in Scenic Hills where we used to have those pickup games.

I agree. I hope he makes a roster and has a long NBA career. He’s young and will improve, but his game isn’t anywhere close to NBA level. NBA centers today are skilled players. The days of having a 7 foot guy that just dunks and blocks shots are over. Especially ones that shoot FTs at 32%.

I just don't see a significant NBA career. Maybe a few cups of coffee. I think the more likely route will be playing overseas somewhere.

Alright, name at least current 10 NBA centers that are rotation players, don’t know how to dribble and all they do is catch lobs and dunk. You obviously don’t watch much of today’s NBA.

Clint Capela
Nerlens Noel
Andre Drummond
Mitchell Robinson
Robert Williams III
DeAndre Jordan
Willie Cauley-Stein
JaVale McGee
Dewayne Dedmon
Robin Lopez
Moses Brown
Dwight Howard at this point

Those are all players log legitimate minutes in rotations. There are several more that still pretty limited offensively. And when you start looking at the end of NBA benches there are several project big men that are very raw.

He is for sure much better than 10 NBA centers were during their senior year of high school. Some of our fans go into hysterics if our players aren't superstars their freshman seasons.

That’s not the question, is it?
There aren’t 10 rotational Centers currently whose only offensive game is getting a lob and dunking the ball. I have no qualms about Moussa…he has time to develop. My only comment in this thread has been about a post that states that there are a bunch of Centers in current NBA that only catches lobs and dunks the ball and has no other offensive game.

That is pretty much where the conversation started... Does he have the potential to play in the NBA. And then posters started acting like you can only be an NBA center if you are highly skilled offensively and that just is not the case. The days of players like Karl Malone and Patrick Ewing are gone, the NBA does not want big men posting up and clogging the lane. Teams are not running their offense through big men on the block. They are looking for bigs that do one of two things.
1. Float around the perimeter and stretch the defense out to open up driving lanes
2. Play defense, set screens and rim run

The current NBA is guard and wing oriented with a major emphasis on "analytics", which is basically threes and layups.

Is Moussa NBA ready today? Absolutely not. Considering he has played like 5 years of organized basketball and his athletic ability IF he continues to develop is there a place in the NBA for centers like him? Absolutely.

It is weird. I mean, we have posters who claim Moussa was not ready for the AAC despite winning AAC freshman of the year... He has very obvious flaws and need for development but he was still a very impactful player for us this year.

Of course there are. There are 12 centers in the top 100 scorers. Many of them do exactly that and earn a good living in the league for many years. Most of them were less advanced than Cisse is right now, at the same age. So when someone like you goes into hysterics making a nonsensical comparison between a high schooler and an NBA player, that is exactly the question.
