On paper, he is a GREAT fit for the CFL. It might be what he needs to revive his career.

He is not doing it for the money.

As of the 2017 season, the average yearly salary for an NFL player was around $2.7 million USD.
In comparison, the average salary for a CFL player in 2018 was approximately $96,857 CAN. Players in the CFL often need to hold second jobs in the offseason to supplement their income from playing football.
The highest paid player in the NFL as of 2019 is Russell Wilson; his contract offers an average annual salary of $35 million.
The highest paid player in the CFL is Jamaal Westerman. His contract offers an average annual salary of $109,000 which is just over $88,000 US dollars. This is quite a big discrepancy!

Part of the reason for that post I made was that CFL players make less money per year than many of us do. It is not a highly paid profession.

Not true at all. The highest salary is $600 USD with a dozen or so players making between $400,000 - $600,000.

A few exceptions:

- Saskatchewan QB Cody Fajardo's two-year extension would pay him more than $400,000 in 2021 and $500,000 in 2022

- B.C. Lions QB Mike Reilly signed a four-year, $2.9 million deal in 2019 ($700,000 annually).

- Calgary Stampeders QB Bo Levi Mitchell’s makes roughly the same as Reilly on a four-year deal.

- Edmonton Eskimos QB Trevor Harris signed a two-year contract through 2022 worth a reportedly $1.1 million, roughly $550,000 per season.

I wouldn’t think Paxton’s initial contract resembles any of these, but if he produces it’s unlikely he will be flipping burgers in the off-season.

That would be a yes. They are now the Edmonton Elks. They bent over and took it like men. Well, not like men, but they took it.

as a comparison

deangelo williams $46,204,195
K.J. Wright (ob guy) $45,846,594
Penny Hardaway $120,479,007

penny's numbers were thru 2008 and that was only his
basketball contract, not endorsements

given market returns since then,
i would guess penny is worth about $400,000,000 range

Not one of his best but it was still an enjoyable read and a pretty good look at Italian culture.
