I had the same thought, but I guess the coaches know what will best impress football recruits and players. I really hope the baseball stadium doesnt slow down progress on the north end zone. To me, thats should be the highest priority piece of athletics infrastructure.
We only have 80 lockers at LR Hill. We literally have guys on scholarship that don’t have their own locker. And these guys use that locker room almost daily while on campus. They are there for meetings, practice, workouts, when they receive physical training, etc.
The players lounge is an added plus to this renovation and both should be bigger selling points to players than a new endzone facility, especially when we already have a brand new stadium to show off to them.

Sounds to me like they have their priorities straight.

So someone remind me because it's been a while. Does the north end zone get us more seats or better seats? Or both? I'm just wondering if it is still considered that much of a priority.

It's gotta add more seats and hopefully they would be much better than those aluminum stands, so I'd guess both. They would have some cool options over there as well, but I'm pretty sure RR is trying to upgrade items that allow him to recruit. The schedule is significantly upgraded, now we just have to recruit to match it.

We need to have a few years of post covid, post Wilder ODU football before we know the configuration of most value for the North End Zone. Will we need more lower ticket priced seats or higher cost amenity areas? There are a lot of possibilities for this space. Let's get it right...

I just want it completed so that it feels like we have a completed stadium. Like, 3/4th of this stadium is beautiful and the pieces work well with each other, and then you've got the North endzone.

I agree, stadium feels/looks incomplete and therefore small time.

ODU has put around $100 million into the stadium since we started playing football. Nothing about that is small time.

OK so not "small time," how would you describe the North End Zone?
I think it looks bad, especially now that the stadium has been rebuilt; however, looked pretty bad even with the old clam shells.

RE: ODU Master Plan
It doesn’t look like a $100 million stadium though. I’d say it is underwhelming and for the dollars spent, even a little disappointing. Especially after being promised the nicest stadium of its size in the G5. But I figure they spent a lot of the money on speed (doing it all in 9 mos) rather than details, amenities and aesthetics. Which was impressive. That end zone certainly makes it look incomplete. But we went for speed over higher quality and complete.

That $100mil includes the original upgrade to get it playable back in 2008-2009.

Been so long since I've been inside the stadium, I've forgotten what it looks like.

I agree that the north endzone needs to be replaced. But it’s gonna take time. Most of the big donors will be paying their stadium pledges for the renovations over the next 5+ years. I just took issue with you calling it small time when it’s clear they’ve made a lot of progress and invested a lot for how long we’ve actually been playing.

I meant no offense by saying "small time." Facts are that our new stadium is small in reference to most FBS stadiums and that the North End zone is the worst part of our stadium (I guess the second statement isn't fact, but I'd venture to say most of us would agree with it).
I'm happy that we are moving in the right direction and want to move quicker in regard to the North End Zone, but totally understand that it will take some time. In fact, if the team doesn't turn around, which will drive attendance turning around, that the North End Zone may not be completed for a long......long......time.

Wasn't there a rumor a few years ago that Wood wanted to topple the NEZ and put a party deck (aka no stands and just SRO)?
I really hope this doesn't happen. If he realyl wants a party deck I hope they could incorporate it into some stands, whether its under ala the SEZ, in the middle, or on top. having a flat party deck there is a big mistake IMO

Yes Party deck with a stage to conduct events, concerts, etc with stands / seat above the party deck and to put the scoreboard above that. It is a fantastic idea to complete that end of the field and open up the possibility of non football season use.

It really isn't a fantastic idea. The aesthetic of that sounds awful. It screams early soccer-specific stadium model that MLS was in love with until they realized they were awful. The only one left is in Frisco, TX. If they must do a standing area and seating at the south end they need to copy the New Belgium Porch at Colorado State but on a bigger scale. Put some seats and the scoreboard over that and you are on to something.

A party deck with a small stage, standing room, vendors and bathrooms on the lower level with a few thousand seats and scoreboard above it sounds good to me. Provides a fun atmosphere, more entertainment options, flexibility for using the space, height to keep the sound in, better positioning and size options for the scoreboard. If it fills in the corners too, I like the sound of it.

It would also take approximately 20% of the current seating. How would that sit with those who say Foreman Field is still too small?

I've always thought a party deck in the Northwestern corner of the stadium by Bluestone Ave made sense. Don't quite get the appeal of it taking up the whole endzone though.
