RE: 2021 USA Olympic Trials - Track and Field
The women's high jump will cause some more confusion as to who goes to the Olympics.

1. Vashti Cunningham 1.96m (6' 5") *
2. Inika McPherson 1.93m (6' 4")
3. Nicole Green 1.93 (6' 4")
4. Rachel McCoy 1.93 (6' 4") *

Right now, Cunningham is assured of going. Neither McPherson nor Green is among the top 32 in the world. If neither can have a better jump between now and June 29, McCoy will go, and the USA will have just 2 high jumpers.

Coming up, the final event of the Decathlon - 1500 meters. Scott is in 13th place and likely will end up there. Even if he had a great pole vault, he would likely have been no better than 9th.

5:07.11 for 1500 meters.

He finishes 13th overall.

Congratulations to Scott for being one of the best in the United States.

The pole vault competition is crazy good -- 11 of 12 are still in as the bar moves to 5.75 meters (18' 10¼").

Right now the temperature in Eugene is 94º

Does the heat make the poles more flexible/able to store more energy for a higher vault?

(If ambient temperature is a factor, I wonder if vaulters have different poles for use in appropriate temperatures. If so, do Rice vaulters have such a variety of implements? Or might the use of temperature-inappropriate poles be a factor in our folks' tendency to no-height?)

I don't know how the heat affects the poles.

No-heighting is a result of bad decisions, in most cases.

RE: 2021 USA Olympic Trials - Track and Field
Pole vault moves to 5.80 (19' 0¼") - this is the Olympic qualifying height. 10 out of 12 vaulters remain, but Branson Ellis of SFA has just one attempt, since he passed on his last attempt at the lower height.

Ellis - this year's NCAA Champion - out at 5.80.
