Just too early to tell. It's an unusual situation we have where everything has to be built from the existing ground elevation and up. Can't go down at all. That creates a challenge from ADA standpoint. But now that Rally Alley is there, that area can now serve as the ADA area, meaning you could then have the front row seats behind home plate lower. But I'm guessing that the footprint is too small to do that because you need that space under the stands for locker rooms, concessions, etc. I'll bet the front row seating will be similar to what we have now where the front row elevation is at the top of the dugouts, allowing the option for ground-level viewing from behind home plate if desired. But that is valuable space that will be needed for something other than ADA accessibility.

Rally Alley can be part of the ADA plan but it can't be the ADA seating plan for The Bud 2.0. ADA requires that new stadiums have 1% of seating set aside as accessible seating but it also is spread out throughout the stadium. ADA Stadium Guidelines

There won't be any band-aids. The three sets of bleachers, the two locker rooms, the concession stand, and the press box will be removed. All new stands, locker rooms, concessions and press box will be rebuilt. In addition there will be a couple of suites (sky boxes).

There won't be any money spent in these areas until the money is raised for a complete rebuild. There is a certain minimum that will be needed for the minimum number and quality of amenities. If more money can be raised, the number/size/quality of the amenities will be increased.

Regarding moving the site of the whole field/stadium; that isn't going to happen.

Any idea how much money would be needed?

I think in the $4-5 million range. The higher the number, the nicer it gets.

You are correct. I forgot that an elevator will be part of this for access to the suite/pressbox level so it won't be hard to provide ADA seating in the stands.

Does anyone know why Verly is so distant with the program. I know his brother Ben is more involved than him even if its the occasional tweeting and what not. Did someone do something to upset him? We really could use some deep pockets for the facility upgrades.

In this article, Wood says they’re going to do a baseball stadium study.

You realize as a state institution they have to do this. So when the folks on the board and in the statehouse ask if what they’re building is necessary or how much it’ll cost, they’ll have all the answers at the ready.

According to Finwood interview with Tim Donnelly, the goal is $10 million for the stadium. The sooner the better.

Unrelated, do we know anything about incoming recruits?

If the first step isn't getting rid of Wood, they're doing it wrong.

He is just salty that baseball is getting a new stadium, while wrestling got the axe.

It’s actually sad, because he used to be a valuable contributor to this board, but now all he does is ***** and moan about Wood (due to wrestling being cut).

This needs to happen. The program has earned the investment. Hosting a CUSA tournament or - even better - an NCAA regional would have a lasting impact to the Hampton Roads community and the profile of the university. Let’s not miss the opportunity we missed this year. Monarch Nation is going to have their eye on next season. Need to strike while the iron and support are hot.

Man, man I'm not trying to be like that. ODU cut the wrestling program when it was constantly ranked and running conference championships, nothing more you could ask a program to do so he's got a right to be mad. I'm just saying I don't think they're gonna fire the guy a few months after they extended him.

I've been a valuable contributor to this board, the previous iteration at the CAA zone, and long before (and long after) you were ever employed at ODU. I still plan on being a valuable contributor, but look around - other ODU alumni and fans have complained about Selig for years, so it ain't just me who's salty about the direction of the school.

And you're wrong. I'm not salty about baseball. The Bud was sh*t when I was a student - I did dozens of games there for WODU. The moment we did ONE road game within the CAA, everything I knew about The Bud being a good facility was thrown out the window.

I even contributed to this fan-driven effort because it was organic and real, driven by alumni and not some BS line we're given by ODAF, which was still advertising wrestling fundraisers the month after the report on dropping wrestling was completed by the consultant. I'm always going to be salty about wrestling being dropped, but don't get it twisted.

I don't want baseball to be ruined like wrestling was.

Here's my proof

Wildman is a true ODU fan. He has every right to be mad about Wood cutting wrestling when that was one of the most successful teams we had. He’s a huge fan of that sport and was proud of ODUs accomplishments there. And the decision affected him a lot more than most of us. He doesn’t want to see the rest of ODUs programs tank or disappear under Woods watch. It’s a legit perspective.

No its actually sad you are choosing to defend an AD who came from somewhere else not called ODU over a Student and a Student Athlete at that who contributed to a sport that got canned. smfh. Again not saying Wood doesn't have the right to cancel the sport at ODU because he surely has and can as a person paid to do so but Wildman has every right to be mad.

To clarify, I was never a student athlete. Just wasn’t good enough to go D1 and had other aspirations in life.

That being said, this isn’t about me, let’s get back to making sure baseball gets some of the respect and support it’s long deserved.
