RE: Greg Jones career tracker thread
I'm looking forward to seeing him in Durham soon, maybe? 2023?

Tampa's top farm players entering the season, in order. Good to see Greg in the top 10; there are a lot SS there, which I love as a draft strategy, but I'm not sure what that means for his path to the big league.

Wander Franco, SS
Luis Patino, RHP
Randy Arozarena, OF
Vidal Brujan, 2B/SS
Brendan McKay, LHP
Shane McClanahan, LHP
Xavier Edwards, 2B/SS
Shane Baz, RHP
Taylor Walls, SS
Greg Jones, SS

It most likely means he will have to willing to play outfield at some point. Pretty fast by MLB standards and might be able to play CF.

I'm not up to speed on farm rankings, but TB has the best farm system in baseball and Wander Franco is the top overall prospect. From the list above, Walls is starting for the (first place) Rays right now, but long-term may be more of a utility guy. Edwards may project more at second, but I assume Franco (20 yo) is the future at SS. Jones' ETA is 2022, so he'll likely be mentioned in trades this year.

The Rays are killing it; need to check out another Bulls game soon.

Here is those rankings which mentions many of the guys discussed above.

As long as Jones can be versatile, i think he will find a spot maybe at another position

I used to think that was his only/best path. But I was told he is going to play SS as long as he possibly can, even if there isn't an obvious path to him getting there at the moment. You can always move from SS to another spot. But once you move, its much harder to end up moving back to SS.

Wander Franco isn't being projected to be a pure SS, either. With his arm strength there's a decent chance he ends up playing 3B at the MLB level.

I fully expect to see Jones still playing SS when he arrives in Durham. From there, who knows.

I understand not moving to the OF in the minors but I doubt he has the arm to make MLB throws from SS and would have to move to 2B or the OF. He also has had some shoulder problems related to throwing going back to his days at UNCW. He missed games at UNCW with the shoulder issue.

RE: Greg Jones career tracker thread
MLB.com just released their top 100 prospects list today. Jones checks in at # 91 overall, and the Rays’ # 5 prospect:

https://www.mlb.com/prospects/top100/

Jones is playing for the AA Montgomery Biscuits currently. Hopefully he will be with Durham very soon.
