Monday Musings June Edition
As we sweat through a early summer heat wave in SE Michigan here are the musings for the month by the Original.

It was good to see the Chippewas fight their way to the regional final. EMU baseball flirted with .500 this year and we hope to see continued improvement for the eagle baseball team.
WMU new logo roll out is going about as well as expected (a disaster) it looks like Wyoming. As our rivals to the west on 94 continue to distance them self from the PJ Fleck era they continue to step on rakes.
Football teams are doing camps all over the country. EMU has ran a good one in the past.. Most camps are a good way to put a few bucks in the pockets of GA's and other "volunteer assistants" and most scholarship offers received by players at these camps verbally are non-committable

As for EMUsteve, you really like the musings a long with my other 94 fans I may have that you keep trying to steal it. Driving the other day I thought emusteve needs a hobby something that can keep him near and deer to the Ypsilanti community and I thought with his big government pension he should buy the wooden nickel and return it to being a functional bar. I will go there after games with Carl.

What the hell is Izzo doing up in E. Lansing. I read these list of positions and think he is staffing a cabinet department in D.C.

Chief of staff, director of basketball operations, executive assistant, etc.

Just my opinion and of course I could as usual be wrong. Tom, I think is getting ready to do the Coach K exit and he is installing former players into cushy positions where they might be retained instead of on-court guys who will be certainly released by a new coach. I admire his loyalty.

He is proud of his program and it's history. That is how you do it! Viva Izzo.

WMU now has a goofy 'W' but they just hit the philanthropic jackpot: 550M.
No typo, a half billion
Plus. In today's Washington Post.

The 50M is for athletics.

Yeah, I flipped. All of my EMU postings are a ruse. 03-lmfao

https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/edu...story.html

We need a congressional investigation. I posted the story at 8:50 a.m. today. The Freep posted it 9:29 a.m. We need a deep throat type investigation... Who told the Washington Post? Why did a Washington paper have it before a Detroit paper? People want to know... Lol.

"The money is being given by an anonymous Western Michigan alumnus, according to a story in the Washington Post. The money will be given to the university's foundation over the next 10 years. " As posted on the EMU Forum...

Wow, I just noticed the online WaPo was 12:01 a.m. today. Man, news travels slow in MI. Need to hire more reporters and have them work 24 x 7. ;-)

RE: Monday Musings June Edition
One good thing about all (most) of these philanthropic gifts, a good chuck of the money is to help students. That means many who may not be able to afford it, or would have been saddled with big debt can not go to school and sleep well at night (and their parents).

This is one way to grow the universities, which need to grow, such as WMU/CMU/EMU as the money passes back through to the university as tuition, etc.

As I understand it, many students have the option between say financial aid at say a Michigan directional school or another school which may not offer aid. In my day, I remember a young lady her father said, "UofM but no car or Wayne State and you get a car." She took WSU and the car.

These dollars will help the MI directional schools attract more and better students.

There are some universities which should have a sledge hammer ready to use on the statutes for those college coaches who may have mis-applied Vince Lombardi's quote: "winning isn't everything, it's the only thing."

Two cases now come to mind, UofM (article above) and PSU (Joe Paterno).

This isn't really the place to explain how power dynamics work with this sort of thing.

Power dynamics? Just speaking for myself, that weirdo would be spitting out chicklets if he tried that funny business on me and I'm no super hero. U-M football sounds like a cult and Schembechler a quasi Jim Jones like figure. Harbaugh is STILL drinking the Kool Aid. This is just insane.

RE: Monday Musings June Edition
Dear dansplaining,
Why should Bob, "back the hell off on this one"? I've read dozens of comments from readers of the many articles written on this subject, and most of them condemn what happened. Most are demanding some kind of action by the University of Michigan, whether it is removing Schembechler's name, paying people who were abused, or just plain admitting that this even took place.
