Good poll. I voted for 3 point shooters. We have played with more tempo, but I think you need very athletic players and a bench to press consistently. We could always use bigger and better bigs, but I think you need the shooters first. I don’t care about #5, just get the best players through either source. #4 is nice but low on the list. And I’d like to have a dynamic up and coming coach, but if Jeff can get those shooters and combine it with the slashing ability of Wade and solid rebounding I think we can make a go of it.

I was expecting to see “Change Conference Affiliation” among the choices. But perhaps this was meant limited to internal measures.

It was. That is something that I would be agreeable to though assuming it was the right conference.

Read the post above yours. Poll is for what the athletic department can do. Moving to another conference is a much bigger all encompassing thing for the school.

Yep, my personal opinion is that is the root of the problem. I don't think changing coaches will change much, assuming the new coach is playing by the rules. You can be successful in any scheme with the right players, but not sure how you get the right players in the current paradigm. It is more get the players you can and maybe you get lucky and find a diamond. You might have a good run but getting lucky isn't sustainable.

I grew up on ODU basketball almost 40 years ago. Seen many great games and individual efforts. But even in those times when the team struggled or the opponent weak, I always enjoyed the pre-game mixing with friends over a few beers. Drove up countless times from South of Richmond for that experience - seeing old fraternity brothers, sorority girls I knew, and just mingling. That's been lost to me in recent years. I was never a halftime drinker, all my suds were pre-game, due to the ride home, but that little perk made it worth it to commit to 2 hours each way to attend a game. Sales and customer retention is never about big rollouts of stuff or programs, rather, it is about the fan experience and the little things that make an athletic event worth attending to dedicated fans. ODAF has forgotten that and lost me in the process.

Same vote for me. It's a shooter's game (hello captain obvious) and running a faster tempo to miss more shots faster isn't going to help much.

Coaching change would be a wash per Ever's comment, I agree with him there. At least JJ is running a clean program and to his credit he has some solid wins here. Plus his in-game coaching is among the best in the league. His recruiting is god awful so my poll reply would have to have a lot of magic dust.

No option to get as far away from CUSA as possible? Literally anywhere but CUSA, ODU's recruiting would improve with a step down in conference, CUSA is a mismanaged joke.

"Faster tempo" included playing full court defense which would get more steals in the back-court/mid-court areas and lead to runouts/layups. It also means more on ball pressure in the half-court defense. Picture how VCU defends.

Actually I change my vote, if there was one change it would be for the NCAA to turn off the transfer portal.

I love pressure defense but did you have to bring up that slimy visual? At least you didn’t use the H word.

Conference affiliation is by far the biggest issue. It’s not even the bball product. It’s the lack of rivalries, travel, and scheduling that all contribute to an all around Mickey Mouse operation.

But if I had to vote for an “on court issue”. It would be outside shooting. We have not had a good 3 point shooting team since Mark Poag was in town. Lol. Probably 20 years ago.
