Cool moment last night, P.J. was subbed in and in his 2nd AB he faced Daniel Hudson.

If you have the means, donate to help ODU baseball update the outfield pads and the banners that celebrate our major leaguers.

Looks like the Bazemore thread is buried but he had an interesting game last night. Hit a few big 3s, found Poole for a wide-open 3 late that would've been huge, had 5 steals but was out of control for some of the game and was all over the place on offense. Big game for the Warriors tomorrow and he is in-line to start.

He's a pending FA and I would expect the Warriors to bring him back on a short-deal to help round out their rotation with Klay back.

Base made a lazy pass in the final inbound play, shame had a good game going on.

Perhaps lazy, but very little chance to score, even with Curry, given that a much bigger Anthony Davis held Curry up and there were only 2.3 seconds. Steve Kerr was in a no win situation, if he had drawn up a play for someone else and they shot and missed, he would be criticized for not going with Curry, but on the other hand, everyone and their grandmother knew the Warriors were going to throw the ball to Curry..

Agree it was going to Curry. It's a shame this was the 'Play in Game' two MVPs going at it, was a great game. The shot Lebron made was just crazy as the shot clock expired. Baze had 5 steals, should of been on James, instead of the smaller Curry.

I don't think it was a lazy pass. If you assume the play was "get it to Curry and only Curry" look at the placement of the ball. Where Curry could grab it, come down, and go back up for a shot. Curry's arm got hooked a bit on AD and he wasn't able to wrangle it with one hand. I think if Curry has both hands available the play looks a lot better for Baze.

I wasn't sure where to put this because not exactly pro sports, but Caine Wilkes was named to the US olympic team. Caine is both a graduate of Great Bridge High (05) and ODU (09). Assuming the Olympics actually happen this summer, he will be competing in the heavyweight 109+ class. He is a 5x national champion and 1 of only 8 US weightlifters to ever snatch over 400lbs and clean and jerk over 500lbs in the same meet.

WHOA! The Wilkes bros! I remember the older boys evolving from wrestling/football to weightlifting back around the early 2000s.

Hudson, after two bad outings in a row, picked up a win last night.

Now 4-1 on the season. 12 H's, 30 K's, 7 BB's, in 21.2 innings. 0.88 WHIP

Unfortunately, 0 saves as he was moved to the setup role this season. Was hoping he could overcome that with stellar stats and make the All Star team but those previous two outings hurt is stats. Without saves, it will be nearly impossible to make it as a setup man.

PJ Higgins collected his first MLB hit yesterday.

If I got this right, he is the third Monarch position player to get a MLB hit. First since Tim Hummel in 2004. Before that was Mark Wasinger in 1987.
(Verlander has 5 career hits. Last one in 2018)

Yarbrough pitched a complete game, 6-hit, 9-2 win at Yankee Stadium today. He threw 113 pitches and gave their bullpen a much needed rest.

ODU baseball alumni have had a great last couple of days.

First complete game by a Rays pitcher in over five years!

Interesting that ODU players who have had fairly good major league carers have all been pitchers (I think both Hummel and Wasinger's careers were brief), i.e. Verlander, Hudson, and Wayne Gomes back in the 1990's. Of course, Verlander's career is HOF.

RE: Monarchs Playing Pro Ball
Ryan Yarbrough went the distance Thursday for his first career complete game in the Rays' 9-2 win over the Yankees.

Not only is it Yarbrough's first complete game, but it's also the first thrown by a Rays starter since 2016. Yarbrough hadn't even topped six innings in any of his previous starts this year. Benefitting from a particularly wide strike zone from home plate umpire Chad Whitson, Yarbrough struck out six and walked none in the 113-pitch outing. He improved to 3-3 with a 3.95 ERA for the season. Next up for him is a home start versus the Nationals.
