May 6th - Mike Brown
June 1st - Kevin Mondro
June 13th - Benny White
Wendale Farrow was retained from the previous staff as the Director of Basketball Operations (DOBO)
They managed to sign:
Austin Harper
Antoine Chandler
Dashonte Riley
Glenn Bryant
Daylen Harrison
They also won the MAC West and Murph was COY in the MAC in year one.
Murphy was hired on April 21st.
Hm and how, many of those had to sit a year?
Harper played right away as a JUCO transfer.
Riley played at the end of the Fall semester in his first year.
Harrison and Bryant sat their first year.
Sitting out doesn’t appear to be a thing with transfers this year.

Agree on Lampley, maybe even the best true point guard in the Murphy tenure. (Talley was probably a more impressive talent, but not as true of a point guard).

Your point is well taken, but I think the task ahead of Heath is considerably more significant then what Murphy had. This is particularly in terms of depth of backcourt and quality of frontcourt that was leftover from their predecessors. (Note, had Groce, Montero, Morgan, Love, and Lowder not transferred, this might have been a different case). Plus Murphy’s most prominent early recruit was Dashonte Riley, who he hardly had to actually recruit since he just came over with him from Syracuse. Anyway, comparing the below, I don’t think it is as likely to see a first year success from Heath. We’ll see...
Murphy
Backcourt
5-10 Darrell Lampley
6-3 Derrick Thompson
6-3 Antonio Green
6-3 JR Sims
6-3 Quinten Dailey
Added: 6-3 Austin Harper
Frontcourt
6-11 Jamel Harris
6-10 Matt Balkema
6-10 Kamil Janton
Added: 7-0 Deshontae Riley
Heath
Backcourt
6-2 McBride
6-3 Spottsville
Added: ????
Frontcourt
6-10 Binelli
6-8 Ballard
7-0 Okongo
Added: ????
Lampley in my opinion is a,better point then what I have, seen the, past two years.
There are those who believe that Lampley was the best PG of the Murphy era. You can definitely make a strong case for that.
Edit: Ha! I missed Ramy’s post before I shared this.

But PJ. Jackson Lampley and Talley were light years ahead of the past two years at point I hope Heath brings in two points one for now one to redshirt

Talley averaged slightly more assists and fewer turnovers than Lampley, for what it's worth.

Talley was also surrounded by MUCH more talent.
I won't take a stance on who was the best, but I will advocate for fair evaluation. LoL

Hmmmmm, both of you raise good points. Regardless, I think both were very good and an important part of Murphy’s early success at EMU.

Nice find indeed, 79! Thank you.
I am speculating, but we might have a shot at upsetting MSU if we play them. Heath is a former Izzo assistant and Denisco knows how Izzo scopes out opponents. Maybe something similar to how Ramsey beat Braun...

I'm going to disagree.
I remember when EMU beat Cal. Cal flew across country and didn't come to play.
Whenever we play UofM or MSU they come to play.

Our last assistant.
From Detroit, with lots of ties to the east coast.
Has to be a 'recruiting assistant.' Ideally a young, energetic, up and comer.
This doesn't sound like someone like Boykins (Boykins isn't going to travel to h.s. gyms all over MI and the Midwest, etc. trying to find a hidden gem.)
p.s. Now that I brought it up, MAYBE that is one reason why Boykins doesn't want to be a D-I assistant coach: Recruiting.
Recruiting is like selling encyclopedias or car repair insurance. Some just don't want to sell, sell, sell...

Haven't heard anything about Drew.
He was very well liked by the 2020/21 team but that team is mostly gone...

Looks like they retained most of the support staff. Good staff with experience and one they will all mentor. It came together quickly. Lets see how they fill out the roster.

RE: New MBB Coaching Thread (Assistant Coach)
Looks like we know the staff.
Shawn Trice is the last assistant coach. Native Detroiter.
This is a very solid staff. Ton of good experience. This staff: Heath, Simon, and Trice have TONS of experience in New England/Pa. In the last say 5 years the staff covered (employed within) Big East, MAAC, AAC, Patriot, etc.
I assume Drew is staying on as DOBO.

Coach Heath was hired April 12 and in less than 30 days assembled a full staff. That's impressive.
