As someone else mentioned.. like the braindead we have in office right now?

And for what it's worth, Ms. Palin is VERY intelligent, but she was "downgraded' by many because she spoke with an accent, (sort of how many people under-estimate a typical southerner, because they've been brainwashed into thinking accent = dumb) and in very simple terms to make it understandable to the general public.

Sort of like a certain previous president did.. the one those of you on the left hate with a passion... Mr. Reagan.

You don't have to show off your intelligence by throwing out some high-vocabulary words for people to see your intelligence.

Regardless of how smart Palin is or is not, she presented as a dope and she made a few on the fly statements that sounded and awful lot like the current office holder. Nobody is perfect, but you immediately lose a lot of credibility when you say stuff like "I know Russia, I can see it from my house".......

Don't think she ever actually said the Russia stuff. That was Tina Fey doing an impression of her on Saturday Night Live.

You are correct in substance. What she did say was:

“You can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska.”

I stand corrected, but none the less still correct. Dumb statement in context and diminishes credibility quickly.

You actually can see Russia from a stretch of land in Alaska.

Again, Eldon.. that's where you let the media (seemingly) confirm your belief. She never said it (other than when she was making fun of SNL).

So basically, you've decide to let the left and the media tell you, because they have always been the one to run the "Sarah's stupid" and you bought into it hook, line, and sinker?

So (and I don't mean this to sound as sounding as insulting as it does, I just don't know how to word it otherwise):

Whos the stupid one for letting the media feed them the story and buying into it, without doing your own research, or did you buy into it, because it simply confirmed what you BELIEVED?

What she actually said was a factual statement. Not sure how that can be considered a "dumb statement". She may not have been the best candidate, but she didn't deserve the "Russia" nonsense. That was purely manufactured partisan nonsense.

I am not questioning her intelligence, but I am questioning her delivery which makes her seem unintelligent.

Which was i SPECIFICALLY named Ronald Reagan as an example of a president who had a delivery that made him seem less "smart" according to critics, yet he is referred to as the "Great communicator" today.

But I don't think you would ever actually question Reagan's intelligence and ability to lead would you?

Guarantee you the Democrats tried that hard in 80 (and I want to say Bush f'd up and tried that as well in the Republican run-up).. just like they tried against Trump in 2016. His NY accent was a target for a long while.

It was because there was a question about foreign affairs and how, as someone with no experience in foreign affairs (she had be mayor of a city of 8,000 people and the Governor of Alaska for less than two years) would be able to handle that role.

She surmised that Alaska is close to Russia, therefore she would be ok in foreign affairs.

That's what raised eyebrows. A ridiculous notion that one's proximity to land would make her able to better deal with Russia.

Without being super snobby about education, Palin's educational path was a trainwreck.

After graduating from high school in 1982, Palin enrolled at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.[26] Shortly after arriving in Hawaii, Palin transferred to Hawaii Pacific University in Honolulu for a semester in the fall of 1982. She returned to the mainland, enrolling at North Idaho College, a community college in Coeur d'Alene, for the spring and fall semesters of 1983.[27] She transferred and enrolled at the University of Idaho in Moscow for an academic year starting in August 1984. Beginning in the fall of 1985, she attended Matanuska-Susitna College in Alaska. Palin returned to the University of Idaho in January 1986 and received her bachelor's degree in communications with an emphasis in journalism in May 1987

While that doesn't always detract from the real smarts of a person, it certainly doesn't instill a ton of confidence.

Never said I wanted her to actually run the country. Just pointing out she was unfairly characterized by an SNL skit that people for some reason think is reality. Shows where people get their "news" from more than anything else, IMO.

It's the same for all the dullards who think (or say tongue in cheek) that Al Gore claimed he invented the internet.

Agreed, folks on both sides go off the deep end often.

RE: NYT: Kristi Rising
After many years I had forgotten than SNL was the owner of the "I can see my house from Russia" comment. The reality though was that I was paying attention to that presidential race and to say I was unimpressed by Palin would be an understatement. I can separate "the noise" from my own viewpoints. I am not looking for CNN (or SNL for that matter) to tell me what to think of these people. I thought she was a bit of a dolt watching her speak on her own. And she did not do herself any favors after the election with some of the dumb things she said either.

My apologies for how this thread has turned. There were a few that were immediately going down the "Kristi is pretty, I like her" road (to paraphrase).... I thought Palin was attractive too, but after I heard her speak full sentences and answer difficult questions on the fly, she could have been Miss America in a bathing suit, but I would not trust her to make me a piece of toast. Noem is attractive, but that does not qualify her to run the country or be in line to do so. I have not heard her enough to make that determination. So far she has fielded mostly softballs and usually only addressed one issue at a time. What she has done (so far) is respond to Covid in what I would classify as a sane and ration away. +1 for that.

The book is far from written on her yet.
